We are seeking a visionary and highly skilled
Art Director
to join the team and lead the visual strategy and creative execution for a prominent retail portfolio. In this role, you will be the driving force behind bringing a digital-brand presence to life, taking creative briefs from conception to final execution across all omni-channel platforms.
The ideal candidate possesses a masterful eye for trends—particularly in the digital and social space—and brings extensive experience in on-set direction. You will work collaboratively with strategy, brand, eCommerce, and production teams to ensure all creative output is strategically sound and adheres to established brand standards. This is a dynamic role for a self-starter who is passionate about visual storytelling and consistently producing work that drives a brand forward.
This is a 6 month contract, which will require the Art Director to attend shoots in and around the Greater Toronto Area.
Responsibilities
- Creative Leadership:
Lead the development of creative campaigns for both brand and key categories, including concept development, presentation, and production. - End-to-End Execution:
Manage all aspects of creative from initial style and look to approving post-production and final layouts for omni-channel initiatives. - On-Set Direction:
Provide expert direction on set at photo and/or video shoots, ensuring high-quality imagery and composition. - Strategic Solutions:
Develop strategically relevant creative solutions based on briefs and integrated team input, ensuring all work aligns with brand strategy and style guides. - Collaborative Partnership:
Partner closely with copywriters and designers to develop integrated solutions, and offer a confident creative POV when working with internal and external stakeholders. - Production Oversight:
Oversee talent sourcing, production logistics, and presentations to senior leadership. - Trend Analysis:
Research and provide recommendations based on best practices and emerging industry, consumer, and digital/social trends. - Project Management:
Attend briefs and production meetings, maintaining excellent attention to detail and organizational skills while working independently or as part of a team.
Requirements
- Professional Experience:
6+ years in Graphic Design, Art Direction, or Marketing, with a focus on
fashion, home decor, or lifestyle imaging
. - Industry Background:
Proven experience in an integrated agency or lifestyle brand with a portfolio spanning digital, OOH, broadcast, print, and social. - Technical Proficiency:
In-depth knowledge of design software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat) in a Mac environment, and an ability to adapt to new internal workflow technologies. - Digital-First Mindset:
Experience concepting for digital-first platforms is preferred; experience with motion graphics is a significant asset. - Design Fundamentals:
Expert knowledge of layout, typography, color theory, and production processes. - Soft Skills:
Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively pitch ideas; a positive, flexible, and solution-oriented attitude. - Organizational Excellence:
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
