We have one of the country's largest private economic analysis and forecasting teams and are widely recognized for expert economic forecasting, modeling, and leading analysis. CBoC undertakes research to address the most pressing issues in Economics, Innovation and Technology, Human Capital, Sustainability, Immigration, Indigenous and Northern Communities, Education and Skills, and Health. We are seeking an Economist to join the Economic Forecasting team.

We are a virtual organization and as a remote worker you must be comfortable and able to work 100 per cent of the time from a home office in Canada. To be successful as a remote worker you need to have a self-starter attitude, possess strong organizational and time management skills and be a proactive communicator. Having a home office environment that provides for a productive, professional, and safe work environment during regular working/business hours is a requirement of this role. This includes internet service and a reliable connection.
About the Role
Some of the things you will do every day:
- Conduct economic analyses, maintaining accuracy and adherence to methodologies.
- Create forecasts for industries and geographies within Canada, including provincial and city economies, and a variety of industries.
- Keep up to date on area of responsibilities by tracking trends through news sources and other economic publications.
- Present on economic topics to internal and external audiences
- Synthesize findings into clear, compelling reports that meet our high standards.
- Foster relationships with key stakeholders, delivering unparalleled service.
- Navigate multiple projects with precision, meeting all deadlines with high-quality outputs.
- Contribute to a positive work environment.
About You
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements: An advanced degree in Economics (Master's or PhD).
- Economic Knowledge: A strong understanding of the Canadian economy's structure and dynamics.
- Programming Experience: Demonstrated experience programming in at least one common language (EViews, Python, R, Matlab, STATA)
- Strong Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate both in writing and orally
- Research Rigor: Strong research capabilities and proficiency in distilling complex concepts from diverse sources.
- Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding skills in engaging with colleagues, clients and outside experts, ensuring superior customer service and collaborations.
- Professional Skills: Commitment to producing high quality work and demonstrating professional values in all aspects of work and interactions with colleagues and customers.
Nice to Haves:
- Advanced knowledge of EViews.
- Experience with Statistics Canada data, especially the System of National Accounts and North American Industry Classification System.
- Experience programmatically sourcing data from various providers, such as eData, Haver, Statistics Canada, IMF, and OECD especially through APIs.
- Demonstrated experience with PowerBI.
- Experience in writing economic reports for a non-technical audience.
- Demonstrated experience presenting economic topics to a business audience.
- Experience with applied econometrics in a professional setting, especially with applications in macroeconomics.
- Experience simulating macroeconomic shocks and discussing results.
- Fluency in both official languages.

The hiring zone for this position is $67,320-$79,200 annually for candidates from any Canadian province or territory. Salaries are based upon candidate experience, qualifications, specific skillsets, as well as market and business considerations. The full compensation band for this position ranges from $67,320-$91,080. The recruiter can share more information about compensation for the position during the hiring process.
