Quality Control Technician (V&V Test Technician – Level 1)

Location: Ottawa, ON – 855 Brookfield Drive

Duration: 12 Months

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Manager, Stability, Verification & Validation (Handheld), the
V&V Test Technician Level 1
is responsible for supporting data acquisition activities for various in-house and field programs related to Current Product Support (CPS). These programs include Sensor Calibration, Lifetime Studies, Proficiency Testing (post-market surveillance), and Field Performance Evaluations.

The role also contributes to New Product Development (NPD) by participating in verification and validation activities across the product lifecycle. This includes assay performance evaluation, stability and shelf-life studies for consumables, and support for regulatory submissions related to in vitro diagnostics (IVD) instruments and consumables for blood gas products.

The technician tests cards accurately and efficiently for product verification, calibration, and performance monitoring, and works collaboratively with cross-functional teams including R&D, Technical Operations, and Quality Assurance.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily laboratory operations, including equipment inventory, maintenance, and sample preparation coordination.
  • Execute timely and accurate card testing for design verification, validation studies, sensor calibration, lifetime evaluation, proficiency testing, and field performance evaluation for both NPD and CPS projects.
  • Record detailed annotations for all test data to enable effective engineering analysis.
  • Perform sample preparation procedures and assist with managing raw material inventories to ensure uninterrupted testing.
  • Identify opportunities for improving in-house testing processes such as sensor calibration and lifetime studies.
  • Communicate testing anomalies, product performance issues, or workflow concerns promptly.
  • Support assay performance evaluations for NPD and CPS, as well as activities within Quality Assurance and other teams as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality completion of deliverables.
  • Assist team members and help resolve issues to maintain efficient team performance.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in a related scientific discipline such as Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of industrial laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
  • Experience with laboratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow written procedures accurately.
  • Willingness to proactively identify issues and propose solutions.
  • Ability to understand the operation of the epoc blood analysis system and troubleshoot related sample preparation, testing protocol, workflow, and product performance issues.
  • Strong teamwork skillset with a commitment to supporting others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Comfortable working with blood samples regularly.

Preferred Qualifications
