Join the Resolution and Restoration Unit, where you will use your leadership, analytical expertise, and legislative knowledge to lead complex investigations, gather critical evidence, and guide teams with confidence.

This position is based out of Orillia, however, the successful candidate may be able to work out of one of the following Regional Headquarters:

About Us:

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,600 civilian employees and 600 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. In addition, the unit provides support to our civilian and uniform members through education, early intervention, investigations, complaints resolutions and workplace restorations. About the job

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the review and investigation of complex, multi-tiered allegations of Respectful Workplace and Workplace Violence Policy violations.
  • Provide advice on protecting the integrity of investigations and provides reports to OPP Command staff on findings.
  • Lead the development of investigative tools, techniques and processes.
  • Develop and recommend options for resolution and workplace restoration.
  • Oversee the quality of investigation analysis provided to client groups and for the recommendations for the management of investigations

Travel Requirements: This position is required to conduct investigations throughout the Province. The successful candidate will be expected to travel as required based on case load.

For non-travel days, the candidate will be required to report to an office within the region.

Mandatory requirements
  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
Investigative Leadership and Strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of investigative plans and strategies for complex, multi-tiered allegations of misconduct with potential organizational impact, in alignment with the OPP's commitment to integrity and accountability.
  • Proven ability to assess the availability, relevance, and sources of information critical to investigations, ensuring thoroughness and fairness in accordance with OPP standards.
  • Ability to provide expert investigative guidance, training, and consultative advice to colleagues and clients, while upholding legislative and policy frameworks and promoting a culture of continuous learning and professionalism.
  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within established policies, guidelines, and legislative frameworks, reflecting the OPP's values of teamwork, respect, and service excellence.
Evidence Gathering Knowledge and Analytical Skills
  • Knowledge of the principles of research and analysis to lead investigations using a wide variety of research tools to gather documentary and digital evidence.
  • Ability to identify and determine information of pertinence and significance to the case and to analyze findings.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles and methods of investigation to lead the investigation and review of allegations of wrongdoing, conflict of interest and other applicable matters under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) and Human Rights Code.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policy and legislation to provide guidance and advice.
  • Ability to interview and gain cooperation of involved parties to gather pertinent facts and evidence and to cross-validate information gathered from interviews and documented evidence.
Conflict Resolution Experience
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of conflict and dispute resolution.
  • Ability to identify sources of conflict to effectively manage them as they arise in the investigation process.
  • Ability to manage and facilitate information exchanges or discussions in difficult and sometimes emotionally charged situations.
Communication and Advisory Skills
  • Ability to develop and present a range of reports, recommendations, briefing materials, research and analysis to clients and internal partners.
  • Ability to consult and advise executive clients on a range of issues in the investigation process, including proposed management action.
  • Ability to discuss investigations, reports and correspondence.
