KEY FUNCTION:

Perform MRI procedures in accordance with applicable legislation, clinical standards, and departmental procedures, and adhere to the standards of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO).

REPORTING:

Under the general direction of the Manager, Medical Imaging.

DUTIES:

1. Ensure the safe and appropriate operation of MRI equipment, according to manufacturer guidelines, hospital policy, college certification and legislative standards.

2. Adhere strictly to MRI safety guidelines.

3. Perform and record routine quality control, troubleshoot equipment and/or procedure issues and contact appropriate service providers to ensure optimal functionality.

4. Provide safe and timely services while maximizing the potential of the equipment.

5. Obtain informed consent and verify patient history and information.

6. Ensure demonstrated competency in intravenous (IV) catheter access.

7. Document patient medical histories, including any relevant information about previous imaging exams, allergies or surgeries.

8. Coordinate daily work schedule; prioritize emergency and add on cases as required.

9. Perform full range of procedures in accordance with MRI safety practices, applicable legislation, clinical standards, and departmental policies and procedures to ensure personnel and patient safety.

10. Adhere to the Standards of Practice as outlined by the CMRITO.

11. Maintain competency in the MRI examinations performed and equipment used within the department.

12. Evaluate exams for quality and accuracy.

13. Maintain records and documentation according to department policy and procedures.

14. Collaborate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

15. Follow all infection control protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment.

16. Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.

17. Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with healthcare privacy laws.

18. Assist with student education, supervision and evaluations as required.

19. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN's Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.

20. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.

21. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.

22. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.

23. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

1. Minimum of an Advanced Diploma in MRI, from an accredited college.

2. Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.

3. Current National Certification in Magnetic Resonance with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is preferred.

4. Contrast Injection Course Certification is required.

5. Formal education in full body cross sectional anatomy is required.

6. Ministry of Labour "Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps" training certificate is required.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Recent and relevant full scope working experience in a hospital setting is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

1. Demonstrated knowledge of operating MRI equipment with strong problem solving skills and ability to handle equipment related challenges.

2. Demonstrated knowledge of MRI safety guidelines and legislation.

3. Demonstrated ability to perform all MRI procedures.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Practices.

5. Demonstrated ability to mentor students and support personnel.

6. Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in general health care and community resources.

7. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.

8. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.

9. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.

10. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

11. Demonstrated effective time management and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload as required.

12. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.

13. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
