Overview

The Life, Learning & Leisure (LLL) Bridgeland Lead provides visionary leadership to advance Silvera's approach to resident wellness, active aging, and aging in place through the lens of recreation therapy. Working collaboratively with the LLL team in Bridgeland, this role is responsible for designing, piloting, evaluating, and scaling evidence-based wellness and engagement programs that support seniors in living vibrant, meaningful lives. Grounded in the principles and scope of practice for recreation therapy, the Lead ensures that all LLL programs are responsive to resident needs, reduce participation barriers, and promote optimal physical, cognitive, emotional, and social health. This role champions co-creation with residents, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and positions Silvera as a sector leader in holistic, person-centered wellness.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Bridgeland Campus LLL team to design and facilitate a Life, Learning & Leisure program rooted in the six dimensions of wellness and integrating therapeutic recreation practices (e.g., Leisure Ability, Health Protection/Promotion, Health, and Well-Being models).

Conduct and/or oversee resident assessments to identify interests, abilities, barriers, and wellness goals, particularly for residents requiring additional supports, with the goal of reducing isolation and increasing resident engagement and satisfaction.

Develop individualized and group program plans that incorporate evidence-based interventions to enhance cognitive health, physical activity, and social inclusion.

Modify activities and programs to ensure accessibility for residents with diverse needs, using adaptive techniques, assistive devices, and environmental modifications.

Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers residents to participate meaningfully in community life.

Champion and encourage resident-led initiatives, supporting skill development, leadership, and shared ownership of programs.

Engage and coordinate volunteers and external facilitators to broaden and enrich program offerings.

Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, academic institutions, and sector leaders to integrate new research, resources, and innovative practices.

Implement and maintain risk management protocols, including safety assessments, consent processes, and emergency preparedness for all programs.

Develop and apply evaluation methods to measure individual progress, program impact, and quality of life indicators, using findings to guide continuous improvement.

Analyze trends in aging, recreation therapy, and wellness to recommend program enhancements and service innovations.

Prepare and submit monthly narrative and statistical reports to support strategic and operational decision-making.

Directs and organizes such activities to assist residents develop interpersonal relationships, to socialize effectively, and to develop confidence needed to participate in group activities.

Regulates content of program in accordance with residents' capabilities, needs, and interests.

May supervise and conduct in-service training of other staff members, review their assessments and program goals, and consult with them on specific residents.

May train groups of volunteers and students in techniques of recreation therapy.

May serve as consultant to employers, educational institutions, and community health programs.

May work in team with other professional personnel, such as those engaged in social work, nursing, and/or recreation therapy, to ensure recreation is well balanced, coordinated, and integrated with special service.

Qualifications

Demonstrates passion for and experience working with older adults.

Post-secondary education in recreation/leisure/gerontology is highly preferred; with a minimum three to five years of related industry experience, ideally working with seniors. A combination of industry related experience and/or education may be considered.

Certification in recreational therapy would be highly beneficial.

Experience in designing, adapting, and delivering programs with measurable results.

Demonstrates creativity, innovation, enthusiasm, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Willingness to grow, learn, challenge and be challenged within a learning environment.

Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to changing conditions is essential.

Previous experience in coaching, coordinating, and supporting volunteers is an asset.

Strong customer service orientation with demonstrated oral, written and presentation skills.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically with Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook.

Must have WHMIS, Food Safety and Pro-serve, or willingness to obtain.

Class 4 Drivers License and clean drivers abstract.

Work Conditions

Must have valid drivers' license and access to a reliable vehicle, as occasional travel is required.

Work within different environments, both within a primary location as well as alternate locations.

Be flexible and able to respond to a variety of changing duties and work routines, on occasion work under somewhat stressful situations.

HOURS OF WORK

Scheduled hours will include a variety of day shifts from Monday through Sunday, with availability to flex into evening and/or weekend shifts to meet program demands.
