Overview
Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor or Community Manager, the Housekeeper is responsible for the overall cleanliness of the community, and to report all safety concerns during their assigned shift. This position is required to be knowledgeable in emergency procedures so appropriate action will be taken. The Housekeeper will also participate in Silvera's resident laundry program.
ResponsibilitiesPerforms cleaning in conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness set by Silvera.
Performs scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of resident units including bed-making, washrooms, linen and towel changes. Dusts furniture, vacuums floors, carpets, furniture, and empties wastebaskets.
Responds to resident incontinence and follows proper cleaning procedures.
Responsible for the cleanliness and sanitization of all common areas and flooring, including the laundry area.
Reports and assists with any emergency situations which may arise. Complete all the paperwork and follow the procedures as required.
Reports any safety concerns to the Housekeeping Supervisor, Community Manager, or Health and Safety Committee.
Flexibility to support all communities to relieve other housekeepers and/or departments is highly encouraged.
Participates in Silvera's resident laundry program.
Reports any maintenance concerns in common areas or resident units.
Is knowledgeable in the proper use and maintenance of all housekeeping equipment. Ensure all equipment is kept in good working order. Reports any issues or concerns with equipment to Supervisor for repair.
Actively participates in the Supportive Living Accommodation Standards.
Completes all TLC training and courses assigned and required by Silvera.
Participates in and promotes Silvera's Health and Safety program.
Other duties as assigned.
Silvera for Seniors appreciates our Casual employees and continuously plans to evolve and strengthen our workforce by creating a multi-skilled resource pool in support of the excellent work we do. Our casual employment Policy 6.40 states the following bullet points:
Casual employees must have availability to work at a minimum of 4 days per week, including some weekends.
Casual employees must be willing to work (and be trained) in multiple positions.
Casual employees must be willing to work and support all Silvera Communities in all quadrants of Calgary.
Casual employees must work minimum shifts and must not refuse to take shifts offered without a valid reason and approval.
Casual employee's employment, after three refusals to take up shift(s) or for not working any shift(s) within 3 months, may be terminated with Silvera for Seniors due to "abandonment of position".
Casual employees will not have any guaranteed work hours each pay period and will be called to work when needed. The Employee Scheduler will send emails to multiple staff offering same shifts, in order to get shifts covered right away. Shifts are first come first served thus the reason no guaranteed hours.
Casual employees must report any time off request to the Employee Scheduler at least 2 weeks in advance.
Casual employees are not entitled to any benefits other than vacation pay.
QualificationsMinimum of 1-3 years prior experience in housekeeping/room attendance is essential.
Demonstrates a high standard of hygiene and personal appearance.
Demonstrates strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.
Basic computer skills required, such as basic keyboard skills, ability to complete reports, email functions, ability to complete Silvera online training, placing online orders.
Experience in ordering supplies would be considered an asset.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision and/or as a team member.

Work ConditionsMust be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs.
Will be exposed to:
Corrosive and non-corrosive chemicals.
Frequent bending and stretching.
Pulling and pushing, lifting furniture.
Required to operate heavy cleaning equipment.
Will be required to perform repetitive housekeeping tasks.
Must be flexible and have the ability to respond to a variety of changing duties and work routines.
Hours of Work
Rotational shift work required, including weekends. All shifts are 8.5 hours and will fall within the range of 7:00am – 6:00pm.
