A recovery-oriented system of care is a coordinated network of personalized, community-based services for people at risk of or experiencing addiction and mental health challenges. It provides access to a full continuum of services and supports, from prevention and intervention to treatment and recovery. Role Responsibilities

Are you ready to play a critical role in supporting Alberta's mental health system and strengthening provincial emergency response? The Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction is seeking a detail oriented, proactive Facilities and Emergency Management Coordinator to ensure our teams, programs, and emergency operations have the space, resources, and coordination they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate facility, office space, and accommodation needs across the ministry to support operational readiness, program growth, and workforce requirements.
  • Assist with planning and implementing continuity and emergency response processes, including documentation, procedures, and readiness activities.
  • Provide operational and logistical support during Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) activations, ensuring timely information flow, coordination, and deployment of ministry resources.
  • Maintain accurate records, tracking systems, and documentation related to facilities, equipment, emergency tasks, and operational logistics.
  • Support departmental preparedness initiatives, such as emergency exercises, drills, and the development or updating of continuity plans.
  • Coordinate service requests, work orders, equipment needs, and workspace changes with service providers and cross ministry partners.
  • Provide guidance to staff and leaders on facility procedures, emergency protocols, and readiness requirements.
  • Identify emerging facility or emergency related risks, escalate concerns appropriately, and contribute to mitigation planning.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal clients, partners, and external emergency response stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination.

Qualifications

University degree in Business, Engineering, Emergency Management or Public Administration, and a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience related to the role; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Required Experience: 

  • Facility management.
  • Emergency management (including planning and response).
  • Business continuity processes.
  • Occupational health and safety experience.
  • Experience in risk identification, assessment, and treatment.
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation and standards (Emergency Management Act, Government Emergency Management Regulation, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Code, Alberta Fire Code).

Assets: 

  • Designation or certification in facility management, emergency management or business continuity.
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate.

This position requires the successful candidate to be available for call back after hours, on weekends, and on holidays as needed to respond to emergencies and operational disruptions.

A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's Licence is required, as the role involves occasional travel to worksites across the province.

Hours of Work:

  • 8:15 am to 4:30 pm
  • 36.25 hours per week (full-time) Monday to Friday
