High School Math and Science Tutor Wanted

Our hours count Gain valuable teaching experience Oxford Learning, Ajax is currently seeking part-time tutors for a role in our learning centre. This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with students, enjoys numbers and equations, and is passionate about helping others build their skills in these areas.

Tutors at Oxford Learning do not have to lesson plan before class, as all lessons are pre-planned. Applicants will be fully trained in our proprietary philosophy and methods.

Position Requirements

All Tutors at Oxford Learning work during after-school and evening hours, typically two evenings (4:00 pm - 8:00 pm) as well as Saturdays (9:00 am - 1:00 pm for some schedules). A commitment of at least one year is required.

This role is in-person. You must be able to commute to this location. This is not an online position. Relocation packages are not available.

Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory.

We encourage you to apply if you have the majority of the following requirements:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree or similar certification in a relevant field
• Fourth year university students with extensive tutoring experience will be considered
• Teaching certification an asset
• Strong knowledge of the current Grades 9-12 math and science curriculum, particularly senior math and including, but not limited to, Advanced Functions, algebra, trigonometry and Calculus, as well as vectors, physics, chemistry, and biology. Must be able to support all math and science courses up to the Grade 12 level, especially Advanced Functions, Trigonometry and Calculus, as well as Physics.

Experience:

• Some experience teaching/tutoring math and science at a Grade 9 to 12 (or equivalent) level
• Strong English written and oral communication skills
• Strong math skills and ability to guide students' understanding
• Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time

Responsibilities:

You will work directly with students as an Interactive Coach with the following responsibilities:

• Teaching up to 3 students at a time at different levels
• Teaching in-person
• Following the Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
• Filling in post-lesson notes
• Completing daily student communication updates
• Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $19 - $20 / hour

Schedule:

• Two Evenings: Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays, typically 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm or 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
• Potential for Saturday mornings, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
