Overview
We are seeking a skilled Freelance Desktop Support Engineer to provide comprehensive technical assistance remotely and on-site as needed. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing IT infrastructure, and ensuring optimal performance of desktop systems across various platforms. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a solid understanding of IT support processes. This freelance position offers flexible engagement for professionals experienced in desktop support and IT infrastructure management.
Responsibilities
- Deliver technical support for desktop, laptop, and mobile devices across Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.
- Troubleshoot software issues including Microsoft Office applications, operating system errors, and network connectivity problems.
- Manage computer hardware components and perform upgrades or repairs as necessary.
- Configure and maintain computer networks, including LAN, VPN, DNS, TCP/IP settings, firewalls, and network administration tasks.
- Utilize tools such as SCCM, ServiceNow, Jira, and BMC Remedy to track incidents, manage assets, and document solutions.
- Support Active Directory management tasks such as user account provisioning and access control.
- Assist with IT infrastructure components like Microsoft Windows Server environments and BMC Remedy ticketing system.
- Conduct analysis to diagnose complex issues related to network or hardware failures.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with end-users to resolve technical problems promptly.
- Document procedures and solutions clearly to facilitate knowledge sharing within the support team.
Skills
- Proven experience in technical support with a focus on desktop troubleshooting and computer management.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems including Windows (Windows 10/11), macOS, and Linux distributions.
- Familiarity with software troubleshooting for applications like Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise tools such as SCCM and ServiceNow.
- Understanding of computer networking concepts including LAN/WAN setup, TCP/IP protocols, DNS configuration, VPN setup, firewalls, and network security best practices.
- Experience with Active Directory administration and Windows Server management.
- Knowledge of help desk ticketing systems such as BMC Remedy or ServiceNow for issue tracking.
- Ability to manage computer hardware components and perform upgrades or repairs efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service excellence in remote or on-site environments.
- Analytical skills to diagnose complex technical issues quickly and accurately.
- Familiarity with network administration tasks involving TCP/IP protocols and LAN management.
- Experience supporting mobile devices and understanding of mobile device management (MDM) solutions is a plus.
