About the jobIn this position, you will use your environmental knowledge and experience in environmental assessment and ecology to:
- Develop and implement technical and operational guidance, policies, and tools to ensure environmental compliance and protection in transportation projects.
- Lead cross functional ministry work groups to create policy reports, develop innovative solutions to transportation challenges, identify new and emerging issues and ensure project teams have the tools and knowledge to effectively deliver transportation projects.
- Provide technical environmental advice on federal and provincial legislation and environmental assessment requirements, including species at risk, invasive species, vegetation, wildlife migration, aquatics, and other factor areas to support ministry projects, policy and program development.
- Review federal and provincial legislation and policy and provide advice on the requirements and how to apply to transportation projects.
- Build strategic partnerships with stakeholders to address environmental impacts and develop solutions to address.
- Plan and manage environmental studies related to ecology factor areas (e.g. species at risk, invasive species, ecosystems, roadside ecology, etc) to develop and implement policy and support government priorities.,
- Oversee study design, resource allocation, consultation, and quality control of deliverables.
- Advise senior leadership, on environmental assessment, sustainability trends, and transportation policies.
- Stay current on environmental transportation trends and relevant government policies.
- Monitor policy compliance, recommend corrective actions, and evaluate program effectiveness.
Policy, Strategic Planning & Legislative Knowledge
You have:
- An understanding of policy development and strategic planning to create effective policies.
- Knowledge of sustainable transportation, industry best practices and environmental impacts to identify key issues.
- Familiarity with federal and provincial environmental, land use, and transportation laws.
- An understanding of federal and provincial environmental assessment and protection rules.
- The ability to apply environmental management knowledge to support research-based policy advice and support transportation project delivery
You can:
- Understand data collection and research methods to analyze environmental conditions and potential impacts
- Use advanced analysis to conduct studies and build models for environmental issues related to transportation.
- Interpret government guidance, assess impacts, and design research studies.
- Anticipate trends, develop models, and evaluate planning strategies.
You can:
- Plan and design major studies and policy developing, including , developing methods, and evaluate new ideas..
- Lead teams, manage resources, and coordinate collaborative projects.
- Organize multiple projects, create work plans, and maintain quality.
- Solve problems and handle conflicts to ensure smooth contract delivery.
You can:
- Build and maintain partnerships with internal and external partners, agencies, the transportation industry, environmental, and academic sector.
- Mediate conflicts and support team collaboration and performance.
- Represent the ministry on inter-jurisdictional task forces and committees.
- Write clear policy papers, reports, and briefing materials.
- Speak confidently to explain policies, answer questions, and support ministry views.
- Develop and deliver training materials to support the implementation of policies and regulatory requirements.
You have:
- Demonstrated experience working in the environmental sector with strong knowledge of assessing and mitigating environmental impacts.
- An understanding of environmental management and industry practices, with a focus on environmental assessment and ecological protection.
- Demonstrated experience in assessing and mitigating environmental impacts related to ecology.
- An understanding of highway development, including planning, design, construction and maintenance
- Experience using software tools for word processing, spreadsheets, and data visualization to support reporting and analysis
