IoT Device Provisioning Technician

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented IoT Device Provisioning Technician to support the preparation, configuration, and activation of LoRaWAN-based sensors and gateways that power our industrial IoT platform. This role is ideal for a technician who enjoys hands-on work with hardware, precise configuration tasks, and ensuring devices are deployment-ready for mission-critical field operations.

You will work closely with our engineering, field services, and hardware integration teams to ensure every device is correctly staged, tested, secured, and documented before reaching customer job sites. Your work directly supports the reliability and performance of large-scale IoT deployments across construction, industrial, and remote environments.

Key Responsibilities

Device Configuration & Provisioning

• Configure LoRaWAN devices, including DevEUI, JoinEUI, AppKey, frequency plans, and firmware parameters.
• Enroll sensors and gateways into enterprise IoT and network management platforms.
• Validate activation modes (OTAA/ABP), device profiles, and RF settings prior to deployment.
• Ensure all devices are labeled, inventoried, and mapped correctly to system records.

Functional Testing & Quality Assurance

• Perform bench tests to confirm join success, uplink/downlink behavior, ADR performance, and payload accuracy.
• Review and interpret raw LoRaWAN payloads to verify correct encoding/decoding.
• Identify device faults and coordinate RMA processes with vendors or internal hardware teams.
• Verify gateway connectivity, packet forwarding, and coverage requirements.

Deployment Support

• Prepare complete device kits, documentation, and configuration notes for field installers.
• Support troubleshooting of signal issues, join failures, firmware inconsistencies, and hardware defects.
• Assist field techs with gateway configuration, backhaul connectivity, and device network verification.

Documentation, Records, & Inventory

• Maintain accurate provisioning logs, device setup records, and platform enrollment status.
• Update standard operating procedures to reflect best practices in device staging and activation.
• Track inventory levels for sensors, gateways, antennas, SIMs, power components, and other accessories.

Security & Compliance

• Safeguard device keys (AppKey/NwkKey) and sensitive configuration data.
• Follow secure provisioning practices to ensure device integrity and cloud enrollment authenticity.
• Support internal and customer compliance requirements related to device identity and data security.

Required Skills & Experience

• 1–3 years of hands-on experience with IoT hardware, telemetry sensors, or electronics assembly.
• Working knowledge of LoRaWAN fundamentals, including OTAA/ABP, ADR, RSSI/SNR, and spreading factors.
• Experience provisioning or configuring sensors, edge devices, gateways, or RF equipment.
• Ability to interpret device logs, join events, and LoRaWAN payloads.
• Familiarity with JSON, MQTT, REST APIs, or IoT dashboards (nice to have).
• Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and organizational skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, and RF-related issues.
• Comfortable working in a lab, warehouse, or staging environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience configuring LoRaWAN gateways.
• Basic Linux experience (for packet forwarders or gateway configuration).
• Understanding of device security, encryption keys, or identity provisioning.
• Experience with environmental, power, or industrial sensors.
