Research Initiatives and Services (RIS) is Memorial's central hub for research support. The Centre for Analytics, Informatics and Research (CAIR) is one of Atlantic Canada's fastest computing environments, working in partnership with IBM. CAIR provides rapid data processing, secure storage, training, and expert support. Its staff help clients identify the best tools to tackle data challenges, provide troubleshooting and technical support, and ensure secure data transfers, backups, and long-term storage solutions.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Manager, IT, Centre for Analytics, Informatics, and Research (CAIR), the Solutions Architect is a key public-facing member of the CAIR team, responsible for delivering client-focused technical data management solutions, offering strategic guidance, and providing project management support to Memorial faculty members, research staff, academic offices, students, government agencies, other academic institutions, small businesses, industry partners, and industry organizations. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with some of Canada's leading researchers, innovative industry startups, and government agencies. Additionally, you will receive training from, and work closely with, our IBM partners, who provide advanced technical support for many research projects within CAIR.
Responsibilities Include
- Providing consultative guidance to clients involving high-performance computing (HPC), data management, or technical training through one of the CAIR public-facing Help Desks;
- Working closely with CAIR staff, clients, and research partners to assess complex project requirements and translate them into actionable project plans;
- Providing expert guidance on current best practices or solutions in both research and industry contexts and leading the project management and coordination from proposal to execution;
- Building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders; representing CAIR in the Newfoundland technology ecosystem or research community to foster partnerships, identify collaborative opportunities, and promote CAIR's services;
- Contributing to the development and execution of CAI R's internal and external communications strategies through presentations and networking events;
- Mentoring and supporting student placements working within the Centre; and
- Performing other related duties as required.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Relevant experience (3-5 years) working within the information technology field; completion of most course work toward a master's degree, preferably in computer science, software engineering or related field is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker, with strong active listening skills who can help translate client narratives, pain points, and goals into business and technical requirements. The incumbent will have strong decision-making skills; the ability to decide on the best alternatives or a range of solutions to a given problem to identify potential risks and benefits of each, and a consultative mindset; experience with cross-functional collaboration; and excellent presentation skills.
SALARY
$72,667 - $91,929 per annum (Management and Professional)
