Job Description:

8 Month Contract opportunity

Reporting into the Vice President, Head of Regulatory Office, you will be responsible for acting as a liaison between the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and Sun Life. The role is responsible for managing the overall relationship with OSFI, ensuring effective engagement, regulatory alignment and proactive management of supervisory expectations.

This role is high impact and is critical in helping Sun Life manage and enhance the relationship between Sun Life and OSFI as OSFI guidance continues to increase in both volume and complexity. This role will help manage the day-to-day operations of the Regulatory Office including managing regulatory reviews, preparing cross-functional stakeholders for regulatory interactions, and ensuring timely completion of regulatory action plans.

This individual will have the opportunity to be a key member and contributor to a small team with a large mandate. They will drive our regulatory insights and help the organization to manage regulatory risk, working with senior stakeholders across our organization. In addition, this role provides insights and analytics into Sun Life's compliance with global regulatory requirements for our Board and Senior management.

You will demonstrate high personal and professional standards, act with integrity, and in good faith for the best interests of Sun Life and operate with intention to meet the Compliance Team Purpose of being trusted partners for the mitigation of compliance risks by providing advice, oversight and challenge in support of helping Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.

What will you do?

  • Develop and maintain strong, transparent, and constructive relationships with OSFI officials acting as a liaison between Sun Life and OSFI

  • Provide direction and support to Senior Business and Compliance leaders for all matters related to OSFI

  • Coordinate and oversee all interactions with OSFI, including supervisory reviews, information requests, meetings and reporting obligations

  • Provide advice and guidance on regulatory exams for areas under regulatory review and assist with Board and Senior Management preparation for regulator meetings and coordination of Supervisory Colleges and responses to Annual Supervisory Letters

  • Support the reporting and escalation to senior management and assist in summarizing and preparing reporting that communicates exam activity and issues

  • Streamlining and actively maintaining the receipt of written inquiries and exam requests through a centralized mailbox and in maintaining effective records of all OSFI Engagements

  • Advise on remediation of regulator findings and their relationship to business priorities, projects and initiatives

  • Maintain a centralized inventory of regulatory interactions to facilitate the preparation of supervisory exams and inquiries, track remediation plans and responses, and drive insight regarding trends and patterns

  • Prepare material for CEO and Board to prepare them for both routine and ad hoc regulatory interactions

  • Provide routine regulatory updates to cross-functional stakeholders; and

  • Liaise with partners in other functions and segments, to ensure consistent, insightful and clear communications to senior management

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex regulatory compliance data to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Organizational savvy and ability to navigate and lead cross-functionally within a complex and matrixed organization and influence decision-making

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities

  • Strong analytical, strategic, and project management skills

  • Knowledge of the financial services industry, asset management industry, legislation, and regulatory requirements

  • Ability to be agile and adapt quickly to evolving priorities

  • Flexibility with work hours to accommodate interactions with Asia-based Sun Life teams

Technical Requirements

  • University degree in law, finance, business, risk management or related field

  • Minimum of 7+ years in a regulated industry and prior experience with regulatory relationships and reporting to a Board or senior executive management

  • Knowledge of the regulatory landscape, OSFI guidance/frameworks, and OSFI's supervisory framework

  • Proficiency in data visualization and the development of Power Point decks

  • Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable insights and business impacts

  • Experience managing regulatory relationships, regulatory change, and conducting detailed analytical mapping in a large regulated financial institution

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
