DESCRIPTION

We're looking for a
Senior
Researcher- Civil Engineer, Transportation, who can help improve the safety, efficiency, and performance of forest transportation in collaboration with a team of transportation professionals, external technical partners, operational and technical personnel in industry, and government agencies.

Our vision is to provide superior service to our traditional forest sector clients and extend our services to other resource and transportation sectors. Our research focuses on optimizing truck configurations to maximize payload, assessing infrastructure (roads and bridges) for recommended transportation corridors, understanding the interaction between heavy vehicles and roads, evaluating the environmental impacts of road infrastructure and transportation safety issues.

Do you…

  • Understand road infrastructure design, pavement failure mechanisms and their life-cycle?
  • Have experience with heavy vehicles, their configurations and performance?
  • Want to positively impact the forest industry in Canada?

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze and evaluate forest transportation systems to improve overall efficiency, through an understanding of heavy vehicle configurations and the regulations and provincial weight and dimensions policies which govern them;
  • Maintain/expand a professional network with major transportation resources from industry, the government and associations;
  • Strong knowledge of road design (paved and unpaved) and vehicle impact measurements.
  • Knowledge of design and analysis of resource road geometry for heavy vehicle configurations;
  • General knowledge of bridge structures;
  • Collaboratively develop, propose, and conduct research projects and contracts for industry nationwide
  • Write detailed reports and present them to both internal and external clients in a summary format that clearly displays the impact of the work

QUALIFICATIONS

  • To hold an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Masters' degree, in Civil Engineering or Transportation an asset.
  • At least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Hold a Professional Engineer certification (P.Eng.) or in process.

SKILLS

  • Team player, curious and focused on improving the competitiveness of the forest sector.
  • Great at solving problems, troubleshooting, designing and implementing solutions to complex technical issues.
  • A knack for driving impact and growth.
  • Strong written and spoken communications skills and the ability to synthesize the impact of the results of their work for various audiences (university, contractor, client, etc.).
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken). French an asset.
  • Resilience and adaptability to changing priorities
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and autonomously, good organizational skills and a strong sense of initiative
  • Positive attitude and openness to learn
  • Willingness to travel throughout Canada and work in the field, often in remote locations, up to 15% of the time; and have a valid driver's license.

– ingénieure civil capable d'améliorer la sécurité, l'efficacité et les performances du transport forestier en collaboration avec une équipe de professionnels du transport, des partenaires techniques externes, du personnel opérationnel et technique de l'industrie et des agences gouvernementales.

Notre vision est de fournir un service de qualité supérieure à nos clients traditionnels du secteur forestier et d'étendre nos services à d'autres secteurs liés aux ressources et au transport. Nos recherches portent sur l'optimisation de la configuration des camions afin de maximiser la charge utile, l'évaluation des infrastructures (routes et ponts) pour les corridors de transport recommandés, la compréhension de l'interaction entre les véhicules lourds et les routes, l'évaluation des impacts environnementaux des infrastructures routières et les questions de sécurité des transports.

RESPONSABILITÉS

  • Analyser et évaluer les systèmes de transport forestier afin d'améliorer leur efficacité globale, grâce à une bonne compréhension des configurations des véhicules lourds et des réglementations et politiques provinciales en matière de poids et de dimensions qui les régissent ;
  • Maintenir/développer un réseau professionnel avec les principaux acteurs du secteur des transports, qu'il s'agisse de l'industrie, du gouvernement ou d'associations ;
  • Solides connaissances en matière de conception routière (revêtue et non revêtue) et de mesure de l'impact des véhicules.
  • Connaissance de la conception et de l'analyse de la géométrie des routes forestières pour les configurations de véhicules lourds ;
  • Connaissances générales des structures de ponts ;
  • Développer, proposer et mener en collaboration des projets de recherche et des contrats pour l'industrie à l'échelle nationale
  • Rédiger des rapports détaillés et les présenter aux clients internes et externes sous forme de résumé qui montre clairement l'impact du travail

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Être diplômé.e premier cycle universitaire en génie civil, Maîtrise dans le domaine du génie civil ou du transport un atout.
  • Expérience dans au moins un des domaines suivants : routes et infrastructures, véhicules avancés et camionnage, transport forestier.
  • Au moins 10 ans d'expérience pertinente dans l'industrie.
  • Titulaire de l'Ordre des ingénieurs professionnels agréé (P.Eng.) ou en cours d'obtention.
