Job Summary
Toronto Paramedic Services is looking for a Human Resources professional to support programs that enhance employee well-being, compliance, and organizational success. In this role, you'll assist with return-to-work and disability management programs, workplace accommodations, health and safety initiatives, and provide guidance on HR policies and collective agreements.
You'll contribute to continuous improvement through policy support, training coordination, and data-driven insights—helping us maintain a safe, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.
Major Responsibilities
- Coordinates and/or leads divisional return to work, disability management, attendance management, workplace accommodation and health and safety programs in collaboration with the People & Equity Division.
- Provides recommendations regarding corporate and divisional policies and procedures, collective agreements and legislative regulations. Implements strategies to ensure compliance and initiates policy development and review, as required.
- Provides analysis and strategic direction on human resources issues, short- and long-term planning and the development of related programs.
- Identifies training and development needs and trends in the organization, recommends and implements a variety of programs and initiatives.
- Provides consultative support to divisional Joint Health & Safety Committees, as required.
- Supports the integration of safety into all aspects of work to ensure clear accountability for safe and healthy work practices.
- Works in conjunction with divisional and corporate Employee Relations teams when providing advice on collective agreements and in administering collective agreement matters.
- Recommends, designs, re-engineers and facilitates policies, procedures and processes regarding division or program specific requirements and to support high quality service, continuous improvement and service equity.
- Coordinates and delivers relevant education and training to Divisional staff, in partnership and consultation with People & Equity.
- Develops and maintains data collection systems, and analyzes corporate, divisional, WSIB and other related data to identify trends and make recommendations for action/change.
- Conducts research into assigned areas to identify leading practice developments within the field, amendments to corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
- Develops and implements consultative processes, frameworks, and tools to strategize with stakeholders on divisional human resource related business needs and initiatives.
- Supports the development and implementation of divisional human resource focused strategic plans.
- Prepares comprehensive reports, work plans, presentation material, briefing notes and other management correspondence.
- Participates on various committees and project groups, as assigned.
Key Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a discipline pertinent to the job function (i.e., Human Resources, Disability Management, Health and Safety, Employee and Labour Relations), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience developing and delivering human resource services, including disability management, health and safety, and labour relations, in a large unionized or private sector organization.
- Experience analyzing data and preparing comprehensive reports, management correspondence, and presentation material using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to oversee projects from initial planning and development through to successful execution.
- Ability to design, develop and deliver formal training programs.
- Comprehensive knowledge of human resources policies and related legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Employment Standards Act, and Human Rights Code.
- Ability to work in a highly demanding work environment with many competing priorities and deadlines.
- Proven consultation and advisory skills with the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with the senior leadership team, management staff, frontline employees and union officials.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent human relations and conflict management skills with the ability to exercise discretion and judgement with matters that are confidential/sensitive in nature.
- Ability to lead work groups, foster effective teamwork and provide a high level of client service.
- Strong organizational and research skills with the ability to coordinate and manage short- and long- term projects through to completion.
