This role is ideal for an engineer who has a mind for detailed modeling and analysis, but is also comfortable converting ideas and concepts to detailed design, and can support the full project lifecycle through construction at the intersection of urban drainage, natural systems (like creeks, rivers, and wetlands) that aim to minimize receiving stream/river impacts

The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of water resources projects for a diverse set of clients with responsibilities that may include:

  • Lead engineering analysis and design for urban drainage and surface water management projects, for both private and public clients.

  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of stormwater management ponds and wetlands, grey/green infrastructure, and erosion and sediment control practices.

  • Conduct specialized hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, including:

  • Master drainage planning and stormwater analysis.

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of dual drainage systems (e.g., PCSWMM, etc.).

  • Complex stormwater pond analysis (e.g., dam breach modeling, water quality).

  • Detailed wetland water balance studies.

  • Support river engineering and environmental assessment tasks.

  • Prepare and/or review construction cost estimates and tender specifications.

  • Provide resident engineering and contract administration support for construction projects.

  • Successfully manage project budgets, invoicing, scheduling, change management, and client management.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including hydrogeological, geotechnical, survey, landscape design, transportation, structural, mechanical, electrical, and natural sciences disciplines.

  • Direct and support field data collection exercises as well as data synthesis/analysis; including site reconnaissance, and topographic surveying.

  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior team members.

  • Prepare technical reports, technical memoranda, and work plans.

  • Support business development initiatives including preparing proposals and building strong client relationships.

  • Work with regulatory agencies to obtain approvals.

  • Willing to travel within Alberta, BC, and SK to support projects.

  • Actively participate in our strong Health and Safety culture.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Water Resources, Environmental, or Civil Engineering. A graduate degree would be considered an asset.

  • Five or more years of progressive experience in water resources engineering, with a primary focus on urban stormwater management projects and municipal engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee (engineering) (P.L.Eng.) designation (or candidacy) with APEGA is required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in urban stormwater modeling software (e.g., PCSWMM, EPA SWMM, MIKE+, InfoWorks ICM, GeoSTORM) is required.

  • Experience with various other water resources modeling software (i.e., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWAT, HSP-F, EFDC) would be considered an asset.

  • Experience with preparing detailed designs, construction cost estimates, technical specifications, and tender/procurement packages.

  • Experience with Python, R, or VBA for data analysis and model automation would be considered an asset.

  • Experience with design and drafting software such as ArcGIS, Global Mapper, Q-GIS, AutoCAD, and Civil3D would be an asset.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of current regulations and legislation.

  • Ability to effectively manage projects of various sizes and complexity simultaneously.

  • Experience in writing technical reports and proposals and giving presentations to multi-stakeholder groups.

  • Self-motivated individual, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills.
