We'koqma'q Mi'kmaw School is seeking a dedicated and reliable Maintenance Person to join our team. This full-time position is responsible for ensuring the school facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a positive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on school buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address safety hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Handle snow removal, lawn care, and general landscaping duties.
  • Ensure cleanliness of common areas, including hallways, washrooms, and classrooms.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
  • Assist with setup and teardown for school events and activities.
  • Follow all safety protocols and school policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Collaborate with school staff and external contractors as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proven experience in building maintenance, custodial work, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good physical condition and ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous communities and a commitment to respectful engagement is an asset.
