Healthy Cities Research Coordinator III
exists in the
Women's Age Lab at Women's College Hospital
reporting to the Principal Investigators and the Healthy Cities Project Manager. If you have experience in community-based research and an interest in aging and support for older adults, this could be the role for you.
As the RCIII, you will lead research activities as part of a 6-year Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Public Health Agency of Canada funded research project in partnership with multiple stakeholders. We are currently in year 3 of the project. This multi-site project focuses on naturally occurring retirement communities (NORCs) and evaluating the implementation of interventions such as on-site social support and health services that are designed to reduce loneliness and enable older adults to age in the right place, and their impact on social connections, nutrition and physical activity.
Summary Of Duties, But Not Limited To
Leads on-site evaluation activities in Toronto and/or Barrie, including:
- Providing oversight and direction to Research Coordinator and Assistants.
- Coordinating the day-to-day activities of any staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of on-site research, as appropriate to their position
- Coordinating and planning with the Project Manager all on-site study operations and deliverables including monitoring of study supplies, visit coordination and data management for study sites assigned to this role
- Assisting with the tracking of study deadlines, timelines and deliverables
- Recruiting research participants and managing the consent process
- Overseeing and conducting structured/semi-structured interviews
- Leading on-site quantitative and qualitative data collection
- Contributing to the analysis of qualitative data including coding
- Overseeing study databases in REDCap and logs/trackers
- Preparing and managing study documents and research files, including questionnaires, consent forms, and participant materials
- Implementing quality assurance processes to maintain data integrity including developing standard operating procedures and process checklists
- Writing interview guides, study-related reports, study documents, and Research Ethics Board (REB) applications and submissions as well as maintaining ethics approvals and liaising with the REB for all study requirements
- Acting as the primary contact person for research participants, on-site stakeholders, study partners and internal Women's College Hospital research support services staff
- Overseeing literature searches using PubMed, Medline or other health sciences databases
- Assisting with the preparation of manuscripts for scientific journals, including the presentation of data and drafting of manuscripts, as well as research reports for implementation partners
- Assisting with enhancing relationships among existing stakeholders and helps develop new partnerships
- Completing administrative tasks such as planning and coordinating meetings, preparing meeting agendas and background material; producing and distributing minutes
- The responsibilities described above are representative and are not to be construed as all-inclusive
- Access to a car is essential for traveling to study sites in Toronto and/or Barrie
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in a related field such as aging, implementation science, social sciences, public health is required
- 3 to 5 years of demonstrated proficiency in research coordination in a community-based setting
- Understanding of social determinants of health
- Knowledge of how the health system and social supports work in Ontario
- Open availability to work on-site at NORCs in Toronto and/or Barrie; occasional evenings and weekends may be required to collect data and build relationships
Experience
Our ideal candidate has experience with:
- Mixed-methods research, and is confident in applying qualitative methods such as conducting semi-structured interviews, moderating focus groups, participant recruitment, informed consent processes and working with a Research Ethics Board
- Applying frameworks, particularly implementation science and equity frameworks
- Working with communities, particularly older adults with complex needs and underserved communities
- Building and maintaining strong partnerships and working with multiple stakeholders with competing priorities
- Large, complex, multi-year projects
Skills
- Strong qualitative data analysis skills, including coding and applying frameworks
- Interpersonal skills including active listening, collaborative problem-solving, and understanding of relational care and its value
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to create correspondence and reports, and prepare presentations for various audiences, including peer-reviewed scientific papers
- Data management including planning, execution and oversight
- Stakeholder management such as identifying key stakeholders, building and maintaining relationships and engagement planning
- Excellent organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to show initiative and work independently with limited supervision
- Time management and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong data management skills with experience with computer software applications, including Microsoft Office programs, data collection and analysis software (e.g. REDCap, NVivo and Microsoft Excel)
- Will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe and inclusive environment for all
