Purpose of Job:

The Senior Accountant enhances customer and co-worker experiences by ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and maintaining the integrity of the general ledger through thorough reconciliations and analysis. They support the company's success by contributing to audits, month-end and year-end closings, and special projects with professionalism, precision, and confidentiality.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Accounting Operations
  • Prepare and review financial statements and reports
  • Maintain accurate accounting records by performing general ledger account reconciliations
  • Facilitate and complete month-end and year-end close procedures
  • Oversee fixed asset processing and reporting
  • Perform daily bank account review and weekly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare bank reports and other reporting requirements
  • Monitor positive pay exception reports
Compliance, Controls and Audit Support
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard company assets
  • Engage with external auditors and prepare documentation per audit engagement letters
Leadership and Process Improvement
  • Supervise and manage Finance staff, providing guidance and training
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and actively implement special projects

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities with a collaborative approach across departments
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and business planning skills, including the ability to research and escalate issues when necessary
  • Strong and demonstrated understanding of ASPE principles, including controls and standards
  • Strong ability to interpret financial statements and ratios with accuracy
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Products (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Experience & Education:
  • 5+ years of working experience in accounting is required
  • Certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is required or near completion
  • Previous distribution industry experience is an asset
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:
  • Position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively
  • This position requires prolonged periods of working at a computer and using a keyboard and mouse
