Our client, a well established and growing law firm, located in the north end of Toronto is looking for a Litigation Paralegal to join its team.

In this full time position, you will be dealing with the negotiation and/or settlement discussions or potential litigation matters dealing with Small Claims Court (90%) and to a much lesser extent, the Landlord and Tenant Board (10%).

The litigation subject matter will deal with debt collection including credit card, line of credit, secured and unsecured lending and non payment of rent.

Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision as well as demonstrating discretion, strong organizational skills, and effective communication.

A solid understanding of the Rules of the Small Claims Court and the Landlord and Tenant Board are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor deadlines, send reminders, and provide timely responses.
  • Draft, prepare, and proofread correspondence, documents, forms and legal court documents.
  • Ensure accurate and timely court filings.
  • Prepare releases, consents, orders, and settlement notices.
  • Maintain organized physical and electronic files.

  • Perform other assigned legal and administrative tasks.Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Paralegal Studies

  • Experience as a Licensed P1 Paralegal working in a law firm, preferably in a debt collection practice.
  • Previous litigation experience in Small Claims Court and the Landlord and Tenant Tribunal will be considered a strong asset.
  • Strong research and analytical skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Professional and ethical conduct
