SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The Life Skills Worker is part of a team supporting individuals who experience mental health and substance use issues to enable them to fulfill the goals identified in their individualized support plan. Life Skills Workers provide support for individuals we serve in the areas of supportive counseling, crisis intervention and prevention, skills development (life skills, social skills, interpersonal and problem-solving skills), vocational and leisure support. The Life Skills Worker will assist clients in developing skills towards sustainable independent housing. They will assist clients in searching for housing, liaising with landlords and developing skills to live independently.
Rate: $ $29.80 per hour
HOURS OF WORK
This position works forty (40) hours per week and will take part in the Agency on-call rotation system.
Schedule:
Mondays to Fridays 4pm-12am.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a relevant University Degree or College Health Sciences/Social Services Diploma.
- Must have a valid Ontario G-class driver's license, relevant insurance and use of a reliable vehicle.
- 1-2 years of experience in a community mental health setting working with adults with mental health and / or substance use concerns.
- Excellent organizational, oral and written skills.
- Demonstrated ability to respect rights and personal preference in treatment, rehabilitation and support including the Recovery Model.
- Building rapport, assessment, crisis de-escalation, conflict management, professionalism.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and suicide risk assessment preferred.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic record keeping and data collection systems.
- Able to successfully complete and provide a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the individuals supported.
