About the role

At Intact Public Entities, we're ensuring our municipal and community service organizations are protected by providing them with a comprehensive and unique insurance program. We help contribute to their success and that's something we're proud of. Working here means predicting and protecting against standard and complex risks with and delivering unsurpassed value-added services. We can't do it without you. You'll get to be a part of a trusted name in insurance with an entrepreneurial culture that's here to amplify your expertise.

We are looking for a Claims Associate to join our Specialty Lines Claims team in Cambridge, Ontario. This role is ideal for someone starting their professional career or pivoting from another field, who is curious about insurance, interested in specialty claims, and eager to learn.

What matters most is your interest, mindset, and willingness to grow.

About the role

As a Claims Associate, you will work closely with experienced claims professionals who will guide, mentor, and support your development. You will help with day-to-day claims handling tasks while gradually building the skills needed to manage your own portfolio of lower-complexity claims.

This role offers hands-on exposure to specialty insurance, including liability and property claims, and provides a strong foundation for long-term growth within Claims.

What you'll do here:

  • Assist with the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of minor to moderate property and casualty claims, while developing the skills required to manage increasingly complex matters over time.
  • Support senior claims professionals with coverage analysis, investigation strategy, and file management, as well as independently handling assigned claims within your authority and experience level.
  • Review policies and coverage issues, assist with the preparation of Reservation of Rights and other coverage correspondence, and help develop resolution strategies by assessing liability, damages, applicable limits, and deductibles.
  • Work with defence counsel and independent adjusters on investigation and settlement activities, review expert reports and litigation documents, and ensure files are well documented with clear, concise summaries for leadership.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate reserves, process payments, respond to external correspondence, and provide thoughtful, professional service to insureds, brokers, and internal partners.
  • Opportunities to attend mediations, pre-trials, and other litigation milestones alongside more senior team members as part of your learning and development.
  • Work in accordance with internal Claims Best Practices and contribute positively to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

What you bring to the table:

  • You bring curiosity, accountability, and a genuine interest in learning how specialty insurance claims work, even if your background is not traditionally insurance-based.
  • University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role. Backgrounds in Legal studies, law clerk programs, paralegal work, or related fields are considered strong assets, as is prior experience in the insurance industry.
  • Working toward a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation or have completed one is an asset but not required.
  • You are an enthusiastic learner who is comfortable asking questions, taking initiative, and learning from feedback. You can work well within a team, while also managing your own responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • You approach problems thoughtfully and creatively, are comfortable navigating ambiguity, and care about people and outcomes.
  • You are a skilled communicator, able to adapt your style depending on whether you are speaking with an insured, a broker, legal counsel, or a colleague.
  • You are organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Posting expires February 11th, :59 PM EST.
