The Capital Program Delivery Branch at the Ministry of Transportation is seeking three (3) dynamic and results-driven individuals to join their team as Area Managers, Construction and lead major projects across Ontario's Central Region area (Simcoe, York, Peel/Halton, Niagara, Hamilton, Durham, and Toronto). While the majority of the workload may be concentrated in one of the seven areas, the position requires flexibility to work in other areas within the Central Region as operational needs arise.

To succeed in this role, you will:
- Manage multiple construction contracts to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Lead and coordinate activities of consultants, contractors, and technical staff involved in highway design, construction, and maintenance.
- Optimize resources by ensuring efficient use of materials, staff, and equipment.
- Provide technical and managerial guidance to resolve complex engineering, construction, and maintenance issues.
- Represent the ministry at committees, contractor meetings, and consultant discussions to maintain strong partnerships and compliance.
- Deliver special projects and assignments that support Capital Program Delivery Office objectives and strategic priorities.
Meet Your New Team
The Transportation Infrastructure Management Division is responsible for the delivery of the design and construction program of the provincial highway system including the administration of construction contracts as well as providing quality assurance while supporting our maintenance and operations office.
What you bring to the teamMandatory:
- Professional Engineering License: You are licensed by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Driver's License: You hold a valid Class G driver's license (or equivalent recognized in Ontario).
- Travel Flexibility: You are able and willing to travel frequently across the Central Region (Simcoe, York, Peel/Halton, Niagara, Hamilton, Durham and Toronto) to locations not accessible by public transit.
- Team Leadership: Proven ability to supervise and develop professional, technical, and support staff, resolving personnel and staff relations issues.
- Negotiation Skills: Skilled in providing contract engineering guidance and solutions to resolve disputes with consultants and contractors.
- Inclusive Leadership: Committed to building organizational capacity through values-based leadership in recruitment, talent management, and labour relations.
- Compliance Oversight: Responsible for ensuring adherence to legislation, collective agreements, and ministry policies.
- Civil Engineering Knowledge: Advanced understanding of theories, principles, and practices related to highway construction and maintenance.
- Infrastructure Design: Experience in the design, maintenance, and construction of transportation corridors and structures.
- Standards & Procedures: Knowledge of administrative and engineering policies, procedures, and standards governing construction and contract administration.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to assess technical recommendations for adequacy and consistency with government policies.
- Contract Oversight: Knowledge of ministry policies and financial procedures for monitoring construction contracts, expenditures, and invoicing.
- Budget Management: Ability to negotiate financial commitments and manage fiscal resources effectively.
- Project Delivery: Skilled in planning and managing multiple projects under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Organizational Skills: Strong ability to coordinate diverse teams and represent the ministry on construction matters.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Superior communication skills to maintain effective relationships with contractors, consultants, municipalities, and other partners.
- Conflict Resolution: Ability to provide contract engineering guidance and resolve disputes with tact and diplomacy.
- Written Communication: Skilled in preparing project reports, recommendations, briefing materials, and executive correspondence.
- Presentation Skills: Experienced in delivering presentations and briefs to senior management.
