Evening Shift Team Lead

Within Canada, Burckhardt Compression has a strong Services division in which we aim to provide one-stop reciprocating service for our customers. We are able to provide field service, repair and engineering/revamp services and spare parts for any brand of reciprocating compressor.

Burckhardt Compression (Canada) Inc. (BCCA) has an opening for Evening Shift Team Lead, that will be directly reporting to the Repair & Manufacturing Manager, this position is based in Edmonton, AB.

Shifts:

Monday - Thursday 2:00pm - 12:00am.

On-call rotation required.

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

• Responsible for assigning tasks to Shop employees according to their skill and knowledge and ensuring the work is being completed safely and efficiently without sacrificing quality or missing delivery dates;
• Responsible for organizing the workflow by monitoring progress throughout the shift;
• Responsible for employee development through training, verification of competency and monitoring of employee performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise direct reports to ensure the group is meeting delivery times, quality and safety targets;
• Prioritize and coordinate all shop work to ensure all jobs are completed as per the Shop Schedule. Notify the Branch Coordinator and/or Repair Manager of any variances as soon as possible;
• Ensure Shop staff are following SOPs and completing the required inspections, measurements, etc. Verify that the proper documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner;
• Verify that materials are in stock sourcing materials to complete jobs as needed;
• Complete tasks or perform standard duties of a journeyman Machinist or Millwright in order to get the jobs done and complete all equipment maintenance as required.

Leadership

• Promote and maintain a positive work environment, encourage a culture with a growth mindset to improve employee engagement and teamwork;
• Manage the performance of direct reports by providing training to SOPs and to safety & quality expectations. Provide guidance and feedback to ensure expectations are being and continue to be met;
• Conduct performance appraisals, goal setting, mid-year reviews within the set timelines;
• With the assistance of HR, execute performance management and progressive discipline as required.

Safety & Quality

• Ensure compliance of all safety policies and operating practices, identify deficiencies and take corrective action as necessary;
• Inspect work areas for safety hazards and observe employees for safe work habits;
• Respond to safety incidents quickly and with appropriate corrective actions;
• Ensure Quality standards are being met and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for our Shop;
• Investigate and resolve assigned NCRs as required;

Education & Experience

• Relevant journeyperson ticket or equivalent post-secondary studies;
• 5+ years of progressive experience as a journeyman Millwright, Machinist, or CNC Machinist;
• Essential knowledge of compressors, valves, etc;
• Ability to lead others and willingness to promote a strong safety and continuous improvement culture;
• Ability to effectively train others and willingness to see the team grow and succeed;
• Strong internal customer service focus, very organized and process driven;
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;
• Collaborative communication style at all levels of the company demonstrating an open, honest and consistent approach to working with others;
• Ability to successfully adapt in fast-growing and changing environments;
• Proficient with Microsoft computer programs and other relevant service platforms;
• Proficient in English.
