Job Responsibilities Personal Support Worker

As a PSW, you will support clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) while fostering their independence and well-being.

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs):

  • Personal hygiene and incontinence care
  • Dressing, grooming; light massage and passive ROM
  • Mobility support (ambulation, positioning and transferring)
  • Feeding by mouth and providing mouth care
  • Observing and reporting changes in the client's condition

Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs):

  • Laundry, linen changes, and light housekeeping
  • Meal preparation and nutrition support
  • Planning for transportation needs
  • Companionship, emotional support, and social engagement
  • Accompaniment on errands and to appointments (via taxi)
  • Medication reminders

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining therapeutic professional boundaries
  • Adhere to SFC policies, values, and guidelines.
  • Communicate honestly and effectively with clients, caregivers, and colleagues.
  • Apply critical thinking and best practices to ensure safety and client satisfaction.
  • Prepare updates, progress reports, and incident reports for supervisory staff.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful workplace free from violence, hate and harassment.
  • Participate in training, education, and continuous process improvement
  • Use a personal mobile device and maintain a cellular data subscription to meet work application requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the reasonable scope of the job.

Educational and/or Professional Qualifications:

  • PSW/DSW Certificate or equivalent meeting Ontario Standards
  • Current CPR/ BLS certificate.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle access.
  • A clear enhanced police record check is required upon hire.

Experience:

  • At least 2 months of experience providing homemaking or personal care services to seniors in a community setting (preferred).
  • Customer service experience (an asset).
  • Experience working independently and demonstrating initiative

Skills and Attributes:

  • Fluent in English (verbal, written, and reading comprehension).
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team.
  • Multitasking and time-management skills.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills
  • Oral fluency in other languages is a definite asset
