Job Description:

Grindstone Theatre Society is seeking a Food and Beverage Manager to join our team This position is responsible for overseeing the Food and Beverage operations across the organization. Currently this includes the The Grindstone Comedy Theatre - Bistro, Orange Hub Theatres Concession and Festival and Events concessions (eg. Pride, Comedy Fest, Fringe BYOV's) The ideal candidate is someone with management experience in the food and beverage industry who is motivated, organized and is passionate about supporting arts and culture in the non-profit sector.

Management Duties:

  • Managing a team of servers/bartenders and cook(s) to ensure that high quality food and beverage products are being delivered and excellent customer service is maintained at all times.
  • Schedule staff using 7Shifts (or applicable system) based on availability.
  • Work with our suppliers to order food and liquor, sales and cost reports, and deposits.
  • Compare prices of suppliers and continuously review to ensure we are working with the right suppliers.
  • Liquor count and orders on Sundays. Maintaining liquor inventory.
  • Weekly food and liquor pick-ups or deliveries as necessary.
  • Attending Grindstone Management Meetings each week and providing updates for the management meeting.
  • Attend the weekly Comedy Theatre meeting (currently Wednesdays at 7pm).
  • Host bi annual staff meetings with the Bistro team or as needed.
  • Develop and refine strategies for achieving the organization's growth targets.
  • Report directly to the Operations Manager and Finance Manager.
  • Engage in hiring and staff training of service staff with support of the Operations Manager.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to maintain the building(s) management as applicable.
  • Creating and updating reference documents for staff (open and close, cocktails, kitchen directions, weekly cleaning duties, etc)
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen/bistro, theatre and bistro office.
  • Work with Operations Manager to determine food and drink menu for day to day operations and festival bars.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager and Operations Manager to keep menus up to date.
  • Work with Marketing Manager to create marketing for the bistro, keep the website updated and to communicate major changes to our patrons.
  • Preparing deposits from daily cash outs

Bar & Kitchen Duties:

  • Developing our on-going cocktail, beer, wine and food programs
  • Food and beverage service as needed (as bar tender shifts/shift leader)
  • Food and beverage ordering and budgeting

Box Office/Ticket Sale Duties:

  • Box office operation and organization (all servers at The Grindstone must operate our Showpass ticketing system and sell tickets to guests)
  • Keep up to date on theatre events and shows.

Financial Duties:

  • Opening and closing duties including cash counting and deposits.
  • Complete monthly board meeting management update notes in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure daily floats are accurate and restocked when necessary.
  • Work with the Finance Manager to ensure tip outs are distributed properly and to the correct staff.
  • Work with the Finance Manager on budgeting for the department.
  • Keep profit/loss updated for budgeting purposes.

Festival/Event Duties

  • Manage pop up concessions for events as needed
  • Current festivals include Pride, Comedy Fest and Edmonton Fringe Festival
  • Plan and organize the liquor and food service for special events such as corporate rentals
  • Budgeting and Reporting for Festival and Event Concessions
  • Organizing separate ordering as needed
  • Coordination with any liquor sponsorships supported by the Fund Development Coordinator
  • Set up and tear down of concession areas
  • Coordinating payment processing as required

General Duties:

  • Respond to staff and patron inquiries in a timely fashion.
  • Be present in the main office (Ortona) at least once a week.
  • Be present at the Bistro at least twice a week while patrons are present.
  • Be on call for staff (problems, illness, etc).
  • Be knowledgeable about the bar and capable of stepping in to cover for bartenders in the event of illness or injury.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to post and hire new staff.
  • Train new staff and monitor performance and attend the 3 month review with the Operations Manager.

There is an opportunity to work additional bar shifts on a separate employee contract (Bartender Position).

Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of Restaurant Management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills.
  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships with staff and superiors.
  • AGLC Pro-Serve and Pro-Tect.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities at work.
  • Self-directed with the ability to take initiative.
  • Proven leadership abilities or experiencing managing others.
  • Cocktail training and/or passion is an asset.
  • Drivers license.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week

Work Location: In person
