Robert Half is looking for Payroll & Benefits Specialist candidates with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who know how to effectively problem solve and possess a solid knowledge of Microsoft Office software. The Payroll Specialist opportunity will be located in Etobicoke, Ontario on a Permanent Full-Time basis.

What you get to do every day as the Payroll Specialist:

  • Compile summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, and disability
  • Payroll information management via collecting, calculating, and entering data
  • Deliver assistance to payroll with internal and external audits
  • Maintain all updates of payroll records by tracking changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers
  • Reconcile employee deductions and other liabilities as needed
  • Follow established policies and procedures to maintain payroll operations and report changes as necessary
  • Review source documents with necessary verification
  • Continue employee confidence in payroll operations by keeping sensitive information confidential
  • Put together summaries of employer social security, unemployment, and worker compensation payments, income tax and all payroll liabilities
  • Handle payroll discrepancies through information collection and analysis
  • Answer questions and requests related to payroll information
  • Perform other tasks as necessary
  • Preparing relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports

Skills/Experience Required:

  • 5+ years of payroll experience
  • Experience with benefits and pension administration
  • General proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel preferred
  • Experience with high volume multi-provincial payroll, billing, licensing, AP, etc.
  • Notable analytical skills
  • Previous experience using ERP software
  • Payroll systems for 500+ employees experience
  • Foundational knowledge in Special Payroll Deductions
  • Proficient in Ceridian Dayforce
  • Well-informed in basic accounting principles and solid financial acumen
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in payroll
  • Excellent data entry skills
