As the Product Developer you will be responsible for managing the development process by collaborating closely with Merchandisers, Technical Design and Vendors. The role ensures that design integrity, product quality, and target price are maintained and that products are developed on schedule and delivered within the allocated timeline.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Work in partnership with Technical Design from initial concept to maintaining product lifecycle.
- Collaborate on technical packages in PDM, focusing on BOM and Tech Pack updates for production.
- Determine best construction options during fittings in tandem with Technical Designers.
- Propose changes and development/ production perspectives to improve products, for better costing and ensure successful commercialization.
- Communicate all style development progress to the vendor keeping them updated and addressing concerns to ensure accurate delivery of the product.
- Perform root cause analysis and communicate findings; recommending solutions to resolve issues.
- Anticipate and identify potential obstacles and issues from all aspects of development, costing & delivery.
- Develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with design, buyers, TD, R&D, and merchandising regarding changes / discrepancies / on time delivery etc.
- Adhere to company's product calendar by solving production issues to meet calendar timelines.
- Builds repeat sheets / colour standards w/ Merchandiser.
- Participates in garment fittings (with TD).
- Findings sheets: Assigns labels/tags from PLM library.
- Builds and maintains fabric/color standards library.
- Builds and maintains trims, accessories library.
- Coordinates with vendors on all sample spec check and fitting results.
- Update and maintain Product Development WIP.
Experience, Education And Designations
- 2-5 years' experience in menswear apparel or fashion design, product development or a similar type of role.
- A Bachelor's degree or diploma in apparel production, fashion, or a related field is highly preferred.
- Experience working with PLM software.
- Hands-on experience with garment measurements and POM.
Knowledge, Skills And Attributes
- Must have a positive attitude.
- High proficiency with Adobe Illustrator.
- Pattern-making ability using a software is a plus.
- Knowledge and/or good understanding of grading would be an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills and organization skills.
- Keen interest in textile product development.
- Strong time management skills to meet tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- A self-starter who takes ownership of their work.
