Bring your talents to a new streamlined energy company, dedicated to operational, commercial and safety excellence as we pursue our critical purpose of delivering the energy people need.
The Opportunity
South Bow is seeking a motivated engineering student interested in hands-on experience across its SCADA & Automation, Process Hydraulics (PHE) and Leak Detection Engineering (LDE) teams. In this role, you will contribute to modeling, analysis, and engineering projects that strengthen operational reliability and enhance the overall integrity of our liquid pipeline operations.
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Term Length: 16 months (with possibility of extension)
Target Start Date: May 2026 (flexible based on academic schedule)
Teams: SCADA & Automation/Process Hydraulics & Leak Detection Engineering (Role will be shared between the teams)
What You'll Do
Collaborate with Control Center, SCADA, PHE and LDE, Cybersecurity, Systems Operations and field teams to support safe, reliable operations
Provide On-Call support and assist in the resolution of issues that impact the reliability of the SCADA and leak detection systems
Maintain scorecards and dashboards for leading and lagging KPIs for stakeholders.
Build and maintain steady-state and transient hydraulic models (e.g., flow/pressure profiles, batch scheduling, slack line checks, surge analysis)
Perform hydraulic calculations for capacity assessment, pressure drop, pump station operating points, and operational setpoint recommendations
Support leak detection tuning by supplying hydraulic insights (linepack, thermal effects, meter uncertainty) and validating alarms against operating scenarios
Assist with automation & measurement initiatives: instrumentation documentation, device configuration, calibration/validation, and data quality checks
Troubleshoot SCADA and field data issues affecting hydraulic models, leak detection performance, and measurement accuracy
Create/refine process flow diagrams, hydraulic schematics, data flows, document assumptions, and validation steps
Develop comprehensive reports that outline project estimates, including cost analysis, resource allocation, and timelines following regulatory and corporate compliance practices.
Participate in design reviews, vendor meetings, and field visits, as appropriate, to connect design with operational realities
Minimum Qualifications
Actively enrolled in an accredited Engineering program (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil, Software & Computer, Energy), Computer Science, or a related discipline, with a minimum of four academic terms completed by the start date
Enrolled at an accredited pos-secondary institution and returning for at least one additional semester after the work term
