Job Description

Staffworks is currently hiring an Accounts Payable Manager for one of our clients, a leading university in Canada. This is a high-priority contract position with the potential to transition to a full-time role, starting immediately

The ideal candidate will have implementation experience, strong SAP experience, proven experience managing a team, and advanced MS Excel skills.

Start Date: ASAP

Expected Duration

6-months with possibility of extension

Location / Work Model

Downtown, Toronto (4 days/week in office)

Work Nature

Hands-on leadership role responsible for managing AP staff of 7, approving transactions, resolving or escalating issues, and performing operational AP work as required.

Invoice Volume: Approx. 70,000 invoices per year

Team Size: 7 AP staff and one AP Supervisor

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end AP process before and after go-live to keep invoice processing, approvals, and payments on track, and proactively clear exceptions and backlogs to maintain service levels.
  • Triage issues, manage escalations, and drive resolutions in coordination with IT, the vendor, and stakeholders.
  • Lead the AP team in support of the Serrala expansion, deliver targeted Serrala user training as needed, and reduce repeat issues through coaching and support.
  • Resolve vendor master data issues by logging and tracking tickets with central procurement and ensuring timely closure.
  • Complete a comprehensive handover (status updates, documentation and open items) with the departing AP Manager to ensure continuity.

Required Experience

  • Prior AP automation system experience
  • Proven experience supporting AP automation go-live, including UAT, post-launch issue resolution, and coordination with IT and external vendors
  • Demonstrated people leadership in an AP environment
  • Strong issue triage and stakeholder management skills

Systems Knowledge

Expert-level SAP experience required; Serrala knowledge is a strong asset

Technical Skills: Advanced Excel and MS Office skills

Decision Authority

Acts as interim AP Manager for an AP team (incl. 7 AP staff and one AP Supervisor) with authority to approve transactions, manage escalations, and coordinate with Central Finance, IT, and Procurement.
