About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking an
Electrical Technician
to join the team in
Medicine Hat, AB
, on a full-time basis.

The Electrical Technician maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and commissions all electrical equipment which include controls and power systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. In addition, the position can be involved in the design development process for new installations. This role supports day‑to‑day maintenance activities, resolves equipment issues, and contributes to planned projects and upgrades.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the reliability of electrical and instrumentation equipment throughout the facility
  • Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical equipment such as Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and battery charger systems, electric motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Motor Operated Valves (MOVs), and low- and high-voltage switchgear
  • Executing general maintenance of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including basic programming
  • Cooperating with Operations and other departments to determine causes of equipment failures
  • Recommending system modifications and/or procedural changes to prevent future failures
  • Developing and performing predictive and preventive maintenance tasks
  • Maintaining calibration records for all critical equipment
  • Maintaining a high standard of safety when working on electrical systems
  • Participating in electrical safety audits
  • Ensuring electrical safety equipment is maintained and tested in accordance with site practices
  • Assisting the Technical department in developing designs for new and upgraded systems
  • Liaising between trades and contractors during the installation of new systems
  • Commissioning new installations and maintaining commissioning records
  • Assisting in developing spare parts lists for inventory
  • Reviewing existing procedures to ensure they remain applicable and current
  • Developing new procedures for new equipment or maintenance processes as required
  • Acting as the designated legislative compliance contact, ensuring compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code and communicating legislative updates as required
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of municipal standards related to electrical systems and liaising with the municipal Electrical Inspector as required
  • Remaining current with all required safety and procedural training
  • Ensuring compliance with all Pressure Equipment Integrity Management (PEIM) responsibilities, relative to the role, in accordance with the PEIM Manual

About You

To qualify, you will need a
Journeyperson Electrician certification (Red Seal preferred)
. Proven experience working in an
industrial or process-based environment
in an electrical maintenance or technician role will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Master Electrician certification
  • Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician certification
  • Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma or equivalent
  • Fire alarm certification
  • Proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of DeltaV DCS systems
  • Strong understanding of UPS systems, backup generators, motors, and switchgear
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code
  • Experience with specialized test equipment and multimeters
  • Proficiency in reading electrical diagrams, P&IDs, loop drawings, and data sheets
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, valves, and control systems
  • Experience with infrared thermography and thermal imaging technologies
  • Familiarity with CMS, Adobe, Visio, or Bluebeam software
