Class 1 Driver Sponsor Program

One sponsored Class 1 Driver training position will be available each year* from Valleyview Co-op. 

Sponsor program details:

Candidates would be required to enroll in the Class 1 Driver Training Program chosen by Valleyview Co-op.  The candidate would need to be available for a minimum of 6 consecutive weeks for training and must be able to travel or stay in Brandon Manitoba.  The cost incurred to travel to and from training or accommodation costs are the responsibility of the candidate. 

The selected candidate would be employed as a "Trainee" and would be paid a salary during the 6-week Class 1 Driver training program.   At the end of the training period and successfully obtaining a Class 1 Driver's license, the trainee would be moved to a Driver position classification.

Sponsorship will include one time registration fees, books and exam costs to be covered by Valleyview Co-op as a part of this program. If a trainee is unsuccessful in passing an exam or testing, fees associated with re-testing will be the responsibility of the Trainee. 

Candidate Requirements:

Candidates do not have to have any commercial driving experience but must have a valid and a clean Class 5 driver's license. Candidates must be 18 years of age and will be required to complete a valid MPI Medical submitted to MPI. Sponsorship will be determined using the following priorities for candidates:

  1. Current Valleyview Co-op employees with at least 1 year of service 
  2. Current Valleyview Co-op employees with less than 1 year of service
  3. External applicants with a Class 3 Drivers license wanting to upgrade to a Class 1 license
  4. New external applicants requiring full Class 1 training 

Candidates will be required to participate in an evaluation and interview process.  Candidate selections for sponsorship will be made by a panel including Petroleum Manager, Division Manager, and HR Manager.

Current employees will be required to apply to the FCL Education Assistance Program. Valleyview Co-op will fund the full cost for the Class 1 training program.  Reimbursements received from FCL through the Education Assistance Program will be payable to Valleyview Co-op. 

Candidates selected for sponsorship, will be required to sign a 3-year return for service agreement.  Service will begin immediately upon completion of the Driver Training program and successfully obtaining a Class 1 license.  Trainees will be required to provide proof of Class 1 license. Program candidates who leave employment for any reason with Valleyview Co-op prior to completing the term of their return for service agreement will be required to pay back sponsorship on a prorated basis.
