Role and Facility InformationPosition Summary
Within the context of a patient and family-centered model of care, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions of Providence Health Care ("Providence"), the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine/Anatomical Pathology is seeking Anatomic Pathologist at SPH/MSJ/PHC.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Providence Health Care is seeking full-time anatomical pathologists. The candidates will join a group of 17 anatomical pathologists based at St. Paul's Hospital, a 455-bed tertiary academic hospital located in downtown Vancouver, B.C. It is the largest facility within Providence Health Care and one of the two major teaching hospitals in Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. The hospital has major programs in breast surgery, gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, cardiology, cardiac and vascular surgery, nephrology, endocrinology, and HIV/AIDS. Our laboratory also includes divisions of medical microbiology, clinical chemistry, and hematopathology/transfusion medicine.
The laboratory provides an opportunity to work in multiple areas of anatomical pathology including general surgical pathology, intraoperative consultations, non-gynecological cytopathology, and autopsy pathology. The practice is a broadly based anatomical pathology service, and a wide range of knowledge and proficiency is required. Subspecialty expertise currently exists in breast pathology, gastrointestinal/liver pathology, cytopathology, genitourinary, renal pathology, thoracic pathology, and cardiovascular pathology.
Qualifications
Applicants must either hold or be eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in anatomical pathology or general pathology with fellowship training in dermatopathology. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia.
Teaching of medical students and residents is an integral component of this position and preference will be given to applicants who can provide evidence of current involvement and commitment to education. A strong record of research experience will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will be a member of the University of British Columbia clinical faculty; academic rank will be determined in accordance with their previous academic record.
The successful candidate will also exemplify Providence's values and contribute to a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion. In addition, Providence is committed to our responsibilities on Truth and Reconciliation. We hold ourselves accountable for making our care, facilities and services a safer experience for Indigenous patients, residents, families, staff and Medical Staff.
Why PHC
Providence is a non-profit Catholic organization that provides services in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health and the Provincial Health Services Authority. At Providence we embrace compassionate care, social justice, and innovation while delivering medical services to vulnerable populations across Vancouver and its neighbouring communities. Providence is committed to building a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion where the staff and Medical Staff – both current and prospective – feel welcomed, valued, and supported to thrive in their work. As we look towards the future, we are led by four strategic pillars: quality-forward, people-forward, learning-forward, and partnerships-forward. We invite you to join us as we work towards building the future of healthcare in British Columbia.
How to Apply
To build a strong and representative workforce, we encourage physicians from all backgrounds to apply. We are deeply committed to diversity within our community, and welcome applications from Indigenous persons, people of colour, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity, and others who may contribute to the further diversification and inclusion of ideas, practices, and ways of knowing that can improve our care and services.
Please submit a cover letter, resume and references with your application.
