The Senior Director, Data Acquisition and Business Development will lead strategic initiatives to drive business growth, develop data partnerships with key stakeholders, identify new business opportunities, and to expand Carfax's market presence in Canada. The role will work cross-functionally across the business to represent Carfax Canada on North American and Global data acquisition opportunities.

Job Details

This role is responsible for leading and executing a multi-year data acquisition strategy that supports the company's growth objectives, including managing external partnerships, negotiating contracts, optimizing ROI, and overseeing supplier relationships. It involves identifying strategic business opportunities, collaborating across the organization to meet data needs, managing budgets, and fostering strong internal and external relationships. Additionally, the role provides leadership and mentorship to the data acquisition and business development team, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Position Responsibilities

  • Build a multi-year plan to acquire key data, enabling our growth plan. Manage the multi-year data acquisition strategy, including all data contracts.
  • Manage external data acquisition partnerships and other key relationships. Responsibilities include budgeting, contract negotiations, data evaluation, and ROI optimization.
  • Identify new, lead and develop all existing corporate strategic data partnerships, aligning with the company's strategic growth plan through external partnerships and corporate development initiatives.
  • Lead and execute all aspects of data acquisition including prospecting, assessing, negotiating, and closing supplier agreements. Also responsible for ongoing supplier performance and relationship management throughout the term of the agreements.
  • Accountable for Police data acquisition working in direct collaboration with the Carfax for Police Business unit
  • Accountable for service data acquisition leveraging a centralized service data acquisition function.  Responsible for DMS data acquisition.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the CARFAX organization to understand their data requirements and identify opportunities to acquire new data sources or enhance existing ones to meet those needs.
  • Maintain and foster a collaborative working relationship with all business development and data acquisition executives across the business.
  • Manage the data budget, seeking areas of financial savings/optimization when possible.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the data acquisition and business development team. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning to maximize team performance and engagement.

Education and Experience Required:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Marketing, Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline is required.
  • A strong understanding of business development strategies, market dynamics, and customer needs
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in sales/data acquisition/business development.
  • 5+ years of experience leading a team.
  • Demonstrated experience in data sourcing and negotiating data partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for acquiring valuable data assets and develop strategies to leverage them for business growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate data acquisition agreements, licensing terms, and partnerships with external data providers or vendors is essential.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and develop data acquisition strategies aligned with overall business objectives.
