RVSA (Ron van Steenoven & Associates Ltd.) provides engineering, control and safety systems, technical services, panel fabrication, and project management primarily for industrial applications such as power plants, medical power/steam plants, oil & gas, SAGD, solar applications and mining. We have a reputation for delivering custom control and safety systems that minimize industrial equipment commissioning and maintenance costs. Our team focuses on optimizing technical processes and solving plant-wide problems, adding significant value to our customers. We are subject matter experts in control & safety for steam, combustion, water treatment systems, as well as burner management safety and regulatory compliance.
Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role for a Control Systems Specialist (jr/int) located in Okanagan, BC, with some work-from-home flexibility. The Control Systems Specialist (tech) will be responsible for panel assembly, control systems design support , troubleshooting, and process control programming. Day-to-day tasks include working on control systems design, and handling process control tasks to ensure operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. The role will involve collaborating with electrical engineers and other technical staff to develop and implement optimal control solutions for various industrial applications. Initially much of the job will involve building and wiring control panels.
This position reports directly to the Director of Operations. We are looking for someone with an aptitude towards programming/integration, field services, technical design for control panels, and building repeatable processes, including the adoption of AI.
We are seeking
two complementary roles
to support our growing automation and controls team:
- Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist
– responsible for
panel design, drafting, and assembly
, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings. This role focuses on translating engineering designs into detailed shop drawings and coordinating panel fabrication. - Control & Safety Systems Engineer (electrical/mechanical/process preferred)
– responsible for
process control, safety system, and overall design support
, including control narratives, cause & effect development, system architecture, and functional design specifications. This role ensures technical integrity and compliance across control and process safety systems.

Duties
Engineer:
- Programming for various control & safety system hardware platforms.
- Preparing and executing control system testing procedures.
- Generating technical documentation related to service and project requests.
- Generating control & safety system technical documentation such as functional specifications, architecture drawings, and wiring schematics.
- Participating in field pre-commissioning and commissioning activities as well as general site visits.
- Sharing information and knowledge with other team members.
- Project management
Tech:
- Programming for various control & safety system hardware platforms.
- Preparing and executing control panel design, fabrication and testing.
- Preliminary equipment sourcing and costing for service and project requests.
- Purchasing control system hardware and software components.
- Either physically assembling, or organizing the out-sourced fabrication of control system hardware.
- Sharing information and knowledge with other team members.
- Project management
Skills/Qualifications
- Technical programming skills: preference given to Allen Bradley ControlLogix, DeltaV, Visual Basic and Python
- Technical assembly skills such as reading control documents (schematics, layouts, SAMA, logic, SFC and network architecture drawings), electrical component identification, panel assembly and wiring.
- Technical design skills such as creation of I/O lists, component selection, generating a bill-of-materials and knowledge of electrical codes and standards
- Technical writing skills such as FAT test procedures O&M manuals and data book creation
- Drafting skills using Visio and/or AutoCAD
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project)
- Analytical skills such as information gathering/analysis and basic problem solving
- Project management skills to plan, organize and execute technical projects on time and on budget
- Post secondary education in an Electrical/Instrumentation Trade or Electrical Engineering Technology/Degree
- Capability to complete field service work (industrial environments)
- Experience with Instrumentation is a plus
- Previous experience in industrial applications is a plus
- Canadian Drivers License
- Ability to travel throughout North America
- Artificial Intelligence aptitude/training is preferred
