London, Ontario, Canada McCormick Dementia Services Full time $30,000 - $60,000 per year

As a member of an interdisciplinary team in a dementia day program environment the incumbent will be responsible for delivering recreational programs designed by the Recreation Specialists for clients with Alzheimer Disease and Other Dementias. Assisting by informing the Recreation Specialist in developing and updating individual care plans is part of the responsibilities. The position has shifts Sunday to Saturday, days or evenings. No guaranteed hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Recreation minimum, Therapeutic Recreation diploma preferred
  • Two (2) to five (5) years work experience with cognitively impaired and/or frail elderly populations providing leisure/recreation activities.
  • Knowledge of symptoms associated with stages of Alzheimer Disease and Other Dementias.
  • Competency in working with individual with dementia who exhibit responsive behaviours.
  • Valid CPR certification at the Heartsaver level.
  • Ability and knowledge to work within a computerized environment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills essential.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary work environment.
  • Completion/enrolment in GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approach) training.
  • Montessori Methods for Dementia training completion preferred.
