Position Information

Title Tree Worker Job Status Temporary Full Time Position Overview

The Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks department is looking for a temporary full-time Tree Worker to join their team until approximately September 2027.

Responsibilities
You will perform skilled manual tree work such as planting, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and removal of boulevard and park trees following industry best management practices. In addition, you will climb, trim, and prune trees utilizing appropriate fall protection equipment and power or hand tools as well as remove trees using appropriate cutting, rigging, winching, and falling techniques and perform other heavy manual tasks related to the work as required following recognized safe work practices. You will report indications of hazardous trees, tree pests and diseases to a supervisor. At times you may provide direction to a small group of subordinate's assisting with related work.

Requirements
You will have completed courses in arboriculture leading to, or resulting in, International Society of Arboriculture Certification, and possess considerable related technical and supervisory experience. Having a Climbing Arborist Certificate of Qualification from the Industry Training Authority would be an asset.

Ability to perform heavy manual work outdoors; the ability to perform climbing and pruning tasks at extensive heights; and thorough knowledge of proper safety precautions in all aspects of tree work, are necessary qualifications. Your effective public relations skills will allow you to interact with the public in a tactful manner. A valid Class 5 Driver's License and a B.C. Pesticide Applicator's License are also required.

Compensation
$38.74 per hour

(January 2024 rates)

Hours of Work

7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
