Job Summary

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Human Resource Operations department is seeking a resourceful, approachable, and strategic individual for the auxiliary full-time position of Human Resources Advisor.

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Advisor (Advisor) is responsible for providing HR generalist advisory services and supports program development to assigned client departments. The Advisor maintains and enhances HR policies, procedures and programs and contributes to the research, development and implementation of new initiatives.

Working directly with leaders, the Advisor identifies needs and core concerns, offers advice and coaching that supports strategic and operational objectives, and recommends effective problem-solving approaches and specific actions. Using broad HR expertise, the Advisor supports all aspects of the employment relationship, including recruitment and retention, compensation and classification, employee relations, disability and leave management, performance management, employee engagement, workforce planning, and change management.

Qualifications

Applicants must be/have:

  • Post-secondary education in human resources or a related program, plus at least three years of progressive generalist human resources experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience creating or improving human resources practices, processes, and tools.
  • Experience building, analyzing, and presenting data to inform HR decision making.
  • Experience in dealing with contentious or sensitive employee issues with tact and diplomacy.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.
