The City of Calgary has an exciting opportunity for a lawyer with litigation experience. Reporting to the Manager, Litigation and Expropriation, your primary duties will include:
- Draft pleadings and conduct questionings.
- Represent The City of Calgary before all levels of court.
- Represent The City of Calgary in all forms of Judicial Dispute Resolution.
- Provide advice to Law, Legal Services' clients.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or equivalent degree from a recognized institution and active membership or eligibility for membership with The Law Society of Alberta.
- At least 3 years of experience in civil litigation is required.
- Trial experience will be an asset.
- Proven technical, self-management skills, high energy, and self-motivation.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and conflict management skills.
- Successful applicants must have the ability to:
- Identify and raise issues of concern and recommend effective solutions.
- Contribute to a positive work environment and thrive in a team environment.
- Manage competing interests, tight timelines and work effectively and productively with a variety of people both internal and external to the Corporation.
- You bring a strategic approach to the law, technical expertise and a commitment to initiating and inspiring creative problem solving.

Lawyer 1: $113, ,200 per annum
(typically 1-4 years' experience)

Lawyer 3: $156, ,000 per annum
(typically 8+ years' experience)
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
