Swift Underground is an turn-key fibre optic installation company located in Steinbach, MB. We use industry leading equipment and technologies to install, test, and deliver high-speed fibre networks. We are currently seeking qualified individuals to join our Construction mechanics crew.

Position Summary:

The individual in this position will be repairing and outfitting our construction based fleet. Included in this fleet is a wide array of equipment, from passenger SUVs and trucks to large diesel trucks, plow cats to excavators, skid steers to backhoes, and lots of trailers, with a focus on Hydrovac trucks and horizontal drills. Responsibilities include heavy equipment repair, upgrading equipment, preparing equipment for out of town and overnight work, repairs required for safeties, ongoing maintenance, and retrofitting new equipment for our specific uses. This position will assist our current crew of Construction Mechanics. Our ideal candidate will highly value honesty, enjoy the challenge of diagnostics, and be in good physical condition. Interest in electronics technologies is a plus.

Essential Job Functions:


• Perform periodic maintenance on a wide variety of equipment

• Hydraulic and electrical diagnostics

• Work well with other techs and equipment operators

• Keep records of repairs performed

• Willing to work overtime when necessary

• Identify repair opportunities before equipment failure

• Determining best way to make repairs to minimize equipment downtime

• Knowledge of methods, tools and techniques used in the repair of heavy equipment

• Ability to jump around between projects as problems arise

Position Qualifications:


• Ability to travel to be onsite and to work effectively outside in variable weather conditions.

• Support all company policies and safety practices.

• Able to communicate with co-workers and operators in a professional manner.

• Ability to use various power and hand tools.

• Be responsible for and operate company vehicles in a safe manner.

• Apprenticeship or Journeyperson certificate an asset

• Possess problem solving skills

Compensation:

Beginning salary $25-$40/hr. Future raises and advancement opportunities based on job performance.
