The Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration leads the efforts to grow Alberta's economy by delivering strategic programs and services to support Alberta's entrepreneurs and job creators, attract investment, grow trade, strengthen Alberta's tourism industry and ensure Alberta has an innovative and competitive business environment. The Economic Strategy and Investment Division focuses on ensuring that government strategies and related policies are developed with a broad economic lens and line of sight to economic growth, industry development and job creation. The Division leverages stakeholder intelligence, robust economic principles and advanced data analytics to formulate effective programs, services, strategies and policies that support job creating private sector investments in Alberta.

We are looking for experienced leaders that have the ability to understand the private-sector perspective, can effectively collaborate with industry and across governments, thoroughly understand government decision making processes and have exceptional political acumen skills.
As a director, you will be accountable for leading a team that considers diverse and sometimes conflicting analysis, broad industry intelligence and national and global trends to support Alberta's broad industry development and investment attraction goals, with a particular focus on growing the logistics, manufacturing, construction, aerospace and defence industries.
We are looking for leaders that deliver high quality work by encouraging their team to deliver their best and continually grow their capabilities, while working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Director, Industry Relations (Permanent)
Reporting to the Executive Director of Economic Policy and Investment Competitiveness, the Director of Industry Relations leads external relations with industry and industry associations, builds industry intelligence, and provides customized concierge services for complex, high-impact job-creating private sector investments, with the goal of securing positive final investment decisions that directly achieves Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration's (JETI) investment and job-creating mandate.
The position leads innovative industry relations in support of JETI's mandate letter items, including to continue Alberta's success as a highly competitive destination for job-creating international and domestic investments.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead JETI's industry relations activities, including the development and execution of industry engagement strategies, responding to emerging industry issues and spearheading innovative industry development initiatives.
- Deliver dynamic, client-driven investment concierge services to high impact private sector investments.

Role Responsibilities (continued)Director, Defence Strategy and Integration (24 months)
Reporting to the Executive Director of Economic Policy and Investment Competitiveness, the Director of Defence Strategy and Integration leads external relations with the defence industry and a broad range of other stakeholders, builds industry intelligence and provides customized concierge services for complex, high-impact job-creating defence investments, and is accountable for the development, integration and execution of strategies and initiatives to support defence investment, economic growth and job creation in Alberta.
The position will build a new team dedicated to the development of an integrated strategic approach for to deliver on JETI's new mandate as the Government of Alberta's lead for defence. JETI will lead work with Executive Council and other departments, industry and key economic development partners, to maximize investment by the Government of Canada and the private sector in defence-related infrastructure and the defence industry in Alberta.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead broad-based defence strategy development, integration and alignment activities.
- Lead the government's defence industry relations activities.
- Deliver dynamic, client-driven investment concierge services to high impact private sector investments in the defence sector.

Assets:
- Strong ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder networks and relationships with industry leadership.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential to being able to coordinate timely and effective issue resolution given the constrained environment and complexity of issues.
- The positions require sound knowledge of project management approaches and experience leading a variety of project teams and high volume of complex work and initiatives to successful achievement of objectives.
- Experience building teams with a commitment to create, support and sustain an environment that enables staff to achieve results and develop and build organizational capacity for the future.
- The positions require a strong working knowledge of economic development principles, tools and practices, specifically those related to best practices in economic strategy and an understanding of how the national context impacts Alberta's economy.
- A strong understanding of factors impacting Alberta's industries (e.g. manufacturing, logistics, construction).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Extensive experience in complex stakeholder environments is required.
- A strong understanding of factors impacting Alberta's defense industry(for the Director, Defense Strategy & Integration role).

We are recruiting one (1) permanent and one (1) temporary 24-month, full-time positions working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Work location is Edmonton.
