ROLE PURPOSE
The Program Coordinator – Restorative Justice is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Restorative Justice Program, including the coordination of all referrals from receipt to completion, implementation of program policies and procedures, promotion of program awareness, development of community partnerships, evaluation of program practices, and strengthening relationships with funders and stakeholders.
HOURS (35 hours per week)
- Monday to Friday,
REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports and is accountable to the Program Manager or their designate
- Supervises Restorative Justice Program Case Workers, volunteers and oversees practicum placements
- Facilitates the delivery of programs and initiatives relating to restorative interventions and community connection
- Liaises with Connective's staff to support the agency's initiatives and to deliver person-centred services in keeping with our philosophy
- Liaises with other community and government agencies in the area

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop and maintain community partnerships with stakeholders to further the vision of the program.
- Plans and develops the program in consultation and/or collaboration with their supervisor. Plans and implements program activities and special events.
- Makes program policy and procedure recommendations to the management team and evaluates the program in consultation with the supervisor.
- Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and requirements are met.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of program staff by performing duties such as screening applicants, participating on interview panels, and making hiring recommendations.
- Provides orientation to new employees and supports onboarding activities.
- Coordinate and facilitate intake interviews, alternative measure processes, restorative circles, educational sessions, and diversions, and support program staff with these activities for their assigned files.
- Lead collaborative discussions and debriefings with staff, and support staff to ensure timely, quality restorative processes are provided to all responsible and affected parties and other stakeholders.
- Monitor documentation of cases, record keeping, and have a good understanding of all the details and progress of each file until its completion.
- Assess and resolve complex problems while balancing program objectives, public interest, participant needs, and referral agent expectations.
- Promote program awareness and maintain a strong presence in the community by maintaining a strong network of community partners (community service agencies, volunteer placements, etc.) and referral entities, and by facilitating workshops and/or presentations to community groups, funders, and referral sources.
- Ensure quantitative and qualitative data is appropriately recorded and reported on, as per funder requirements. Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
- Ensure maintenance of a strong volunteer base comprised of volunteer mentors and community representatives, including documentation of volunteer hours; ensure volunteers are adequately screened, trained, and supported.
- Keep abreast of best practices, information and education related to the position.
- Role model behavioural expectations of dress, daily work habits interpersonal communication, and act on behalf of the organization/program in the community.
- Create and facilitate presentations at community agencies on the program
- Manage and support practicum students that work within the program
- Performs other related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Functions independently, while remaining a crucial member of the restorative justice team
- Adheres to Connective's policies and procedures
- Is available to work flexible hours as needed, which may include some evenings/weekends, as determined by program/client needs and schedules
- Is a member of CUPE local
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- A university Degree or diploma in a relevant branch of the Behavioural Sciences with an emphasis on Social Work, Sociology, and/or Psychology
- Three (3) years recent related experience including one (1) year supervisory or administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Experience working with individuals and families who experience a wide range of barriers, including those with mental health and/or substance use challenges, neurodivergence, low socio-economic status, lack of housing stability, and/or those who have historically or recently have experienced harm through traumatic events or victimization.
- Experience working youth and adults who are at-risk of becoming involved in or are involved in the criminal justice system as well as victims of crime.
- Strong understanding of the values and principles of restorative justice and sound knowledge of trauma-informed practice
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment
- Experience with grant writing and fundraising considered an asset
- Knowledge of government and community justice services; experience liaising with criminal justice system and/or social services personnel.
- Crisis intervention and suicide prevention training considered an asset
- Experience working with First Nations communities
- Experience in and comfort with public speaking
- Competency in use of Microsoft Office Suite and case management systems
- Experience with facilitating conflict resolution and/or restorative justice processes involving multiple stakeholders
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate (please refer to the Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafeBC)
- Valid Class 5 BC driver's license
- Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport residents
COMPENSATION
As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $29.17 per hour. The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $33.49 per hour.
Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
