Job Ready Program
Full-Time | Regular | On-site – Edmonton

Guide. Support. Empower.

You help job seekers build clarity and confidence, turning possibilities into meaningful progress. You create environments where learning feels accessible, employment feels attainable, and people feel seen.

About the Role

The Career Practitioner supports newcomers and equity-seeking job seekers as they navigate the complexities of entering the Canadian labour market. The role blends one-on-one career coaching, group-based learning, assessment, and labour market guidance to help clients identify strengths, explore options, and take informed steps toward sustainable employment.

Working within the Job Ready program, the Practitioner contributes to a consistent and coordinated client experience across Employment Services. The work involves collaboration with colleagues, employers, and community partners to strengthen employment pathways and ensure clients receive timely, high-quality support.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strengths-based, individualized career guidance that builds confidence and helps clients clarify goals and pathways.
  • Support job search activities, including resumes, interviews, networking, and employer navigation.
  • Deliver accessible, engaging workshops on employment readiness, job search skills, and workplace expectations.
  • Conduct structured assessments to identify interests, transferable skills, and next steps.
  • Help clients understand credential recognition, workplace rights, sector requirements, and training opportunities.
  • Participate in employer and community events, contributing to strong relationships and coordinated service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, documentation, and outcome tracking to support reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Engage in organizational committees such as JHSC, Employee Engagement, or Policy Review, contributing to a healthy and connected workplace.
  • Actively learn and apply organizational policies, service standards, and safety practices.

What It Takes

  • A steady, human-centred approach that builds trust and honours diverse lived experiences.
  • Clear, adaptable communication that meets people where they are and fosters understanding.
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to create inclusive learning spaces for adult learners.
  • The ability to analyze information, interpret assessments, and support informed decision-making.
  • Comfort engaging with employers, training partners, and community organizations.
  • Curiosity, persistence, and an ability to respond to emerging needs with sound judgment.
  • Strong organization and documentation skills, with attention to consistency and accountability.
  • A collaborative spirit that values coordinated service, shared outcomes, and continuous learning.

What You Bring

We recognize that people build skills in many ways. Success in this role blends formal training with practical coaching experience and an understanding of employment systems, barriers, and opportunities.

  • 2–3 years of experience in career development, employment services, or related client-support roles.
  • Career Development Practitioner certification (CDP/CCDP) or commitment to complete within 12 months.
  • Training in trauma-informed practice, intercultural competence, and privacy and confidentiality under PIPA (Alberta).
  • Functional knowledge of Canadian legislation and Alberta Employment Standards and workplace rights.
  • Experience supporting diverse, barriered, or newcomer job seekers.
  • Clear Police Information Check (PIC) within the last 3 months.

Preferred / Asset Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in psychology, social work, HR, business, adult education, or related field.
  • Training in Motivational Interviewing, NVCI, Mental Health First Aid, or adult-education methodologies.
  • Experience with case-management systems, labour market navigation, or group facilitation.
  • Class 5 driver's licence and access to reliable transportation.
