Executive Council works to ensure effective strategic planning and coordinated policy development and communications across government, engages Albertans and the broader global community, and promotes a vibrant and innovative public service.

The International Offices and Agency Relations (branch) is responsible for ensuring effective management, operations and oversight of the Alberta International Offices (AIO) Network. With offices around the world, the AIO network plays a key role in advancing Alberta's international interests abroad within their respective local markets. The branch has two units: AIO Operations and AIO Oversight, Accountability and Reporting.

Within the branch, the Oversight, Accountability and Reporting Unit is responsible for leading the development and delivery of oversight and accountability mechanisms, performance reporting, enabling and supporting optimal performance of the AIO network.

What You'll Do:

As an Alberta International Offices Advisor, you'll be at the heart of Alberta's global engagement strategy. Your work will ensure that our international offices deliver measurable results and remain accountable to Albertans. Here's how you'll make an impact:

Lead Oversight and Governance

  • Design and implement oversight processes for Alberta's International Offices (AIO) network to ensure programs are effective and aligned with government priorities.
  • Collaborate with partner ministries and AIO teams to develop strategic international implementation plans that drive Alberta's economic and policy objectives abroad.

Champion Accountability

  • Develop and maintain accountability frameworks for major initiatives, ensuring compliance with Alberta's Office of the Auditor General (OAG) requirements.
  • Provide clear guidance and policy recommendations to help AIO staff and leadership meet governance standards.
Role Responsibilities (Cont'd)

Deliver High-Quality Reporting

  • Review and analyze data from the AIO network to produce insightful reports on activities, outcomes, and success stories.
  • Anticipate technology needs and support CRM system enhancements to enable accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepare briefing materials and ad-hoc reports for senior executives to inform strategic decision-making.

Enable Strategic Leadership

  • Support branch leadership in defining objectives, tracking progress, and preparing correspondence and recommendations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Associate Director and step in during absences to maintain continuity.

Collaborate and Influence

  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, partner ministries, and external stakeholders to align efforts and maximize impact.
  • Engage stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure Alberta's international offices deliver value to businesses, investors, and communities.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

Education

  • A Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Example: a Bachelors degree could be considered to 4 years of relevant experience.

Experience (4+ years)

  • Demonstrated experience in program oversight, accountability, and reporting within a complex organizational or government environment.
  • Strong background in policy development, performance measurement, and stakeholder engagement.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data for reporting and decision-making.
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of government accountability frameworks and compliance requirements.

Minimum Recruitment Standard:

University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Hours of Work: 8:15am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday

Location: Commerce Place Building, Downtown Edmonton, Alberta.
