Vice President – Private Equity Investments - Toronto

Our Client:

Our client is a specialized private equity investment firm based in Toronto. They support the sustainability transformation occurring within our food system in North America. They invest in mid-market growth companies across the food value chain, who are well positioned to prioritize and accelerate this change. They are part of a global multi-platform alternative asset manager investing in sustainable strategies.

Following the successful closing of their first fund, they are looking to add a Vice President to their growing team based in Toronto. The role will focus on investment due diligence and execution, mentoring of junior team members and portfolio management, a full cycle private equity role. The firm has already closed several investments and has an extensive pipeline of opportunities. The Role:

1. Manage and lead various stages of a private equity investment including due diligence, execution, staffing junior staff members, working closely with lenders and third-party advisors, senior partners, and senior executives of portfolio companies in their value creation strategy.
2. Become a true contributing member of the team
3. Work collaboratively with all members of the team, including support staff
4. Build trust with senior executives internal and external
5. Develop a strong subject matter experience in the agri-food industry
6. Attend conferences and trade shows

Role Requirements:

1. Strong desire to be part of an entrepreneurial team who are excited to build and grow together
2. Previous private equity investing experience within North America, required
3. 5-7 years overall experience including investment banking, private equity and/or corporate development
4. Bachelor's degree in business or commerce, MBA, CFA or CPA background an asset
5. Experience in the agri-food industry is an asset, but not required
6. Strong understanding of businesses and operations
7. Experience working with owner operators on strategic initiatives inherent in growing portfolio companies
8. Critical and curious mindset, able to communicate points of view in a positive collegial and informed manner
9. Oversee financial modeling and create models in cases where complexity of transaction requires senior expertise
10. Prepare first drafts of transaction documentation - term sheets, transaction documents and liaise with external counsel as needed
11. Previous experience mentoring and developing junior team members with enthusiasm required
12. Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, interpersonal, problem-solving, financial analysis, and organizational skills
13. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada to be considered
