The George Spady Society is looking for a full-time Support Worker for days at our Supervised Consumption Site.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Takes direction from RN (shift lead) or LPN (alternate shift lead) and follows George Spady policies and procedures and Health Canada Exemptions.
  • Maintains a quiet, relaxed, safe space within the SCS and orients individuals to the service.
  • Provides education using a harm reduction approach on safer substance use, sexual health, and other high-risk behaviors.
  • Monitors clients on a regular basis and advises nursing staff or Supervisors of any individual's health concerns.
  • Assists with overdose and other medical emergencies both inside and outside of the building at the direction of the SCS nursing staff, including the administration of Naloxone and rescue breathing as required.
  • Interacts with clients in a caring, and non-judgmental manner and follows the client centered, trauma informed and harm reduction approach
  • Supports team by answering phones, the door, and other duties
  • Builds rapport and assists in de-escalation and crisis interventions
  • Compiles daily statistics.
  • Implements disinfectant and clean-up procedures as required and assists with hygienic procedures.

Position Requirements

  • The successful candidates should ideally have a minimum of 1 year of direct experience in working with vulnerable populations. A combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Have a basic understanding of harm reduction principles based on dignity, hope and healing as individuals move forward towards improved health and well-being
  • Demonstrates understanding of the addictions field, and trauma informed care
  • Current and clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
  • First Aid/ CPR Course

Hours of Work: Days on a rotation of 12-hour shifts from 6:45 am to 7:15 pm, 4 days on and 4 days off, with Thursday's being the "short day" of 8-hour shifts from 6:45 am to 3:15 pm.
