Job Summary

The Paint Department Head is responsible for leading the Paint Department while delivering exceptional customer service. This role combines hands-on paint expertise with department leadership, merchandising, inventory management, and staff supervision. The Department Head ensures the department is well-stocked, visually appealing, profitable, and aligned with store policies and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Paint Department team, setting a positive example at all times
  • Greet customers promptly and provide expert paint, colour matching, and décor advice
  • Assist customers with complete project solutions, including special orders
  • Supervise, train, and develop sales associates within the department
  • Maintain inventory levels through ordering, replenishment, cycle counts, and inventory adjustments
  • Receive, price, stock, and merchandise paint and décor products
  • Build and maintain endcaps, feature displays, promotions, and signage
  • Recommend products, promotions, and seasonal merchandise to drive sales
  • Monitor sales performance and report stock levels or issues to management
  • Ensure department cleanliness, organization, and visual standards
  • Follow and enforce loss prevention, safety, and company policies
  • Safely unload trucks and ensure proper freight handling procedures
  • Resolve customer concerns in accordance with store policies
  • Create excitement around paint products through promotions and social media content
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, and complete special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1–2 years of retail experience; paint or department leadership experience is an asset
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to train, coach, and motivate team members
  • Good mathematical and computer skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Knowledge of paint products, colour matching, and merchandising is an asset

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move merchandise throughout the store

Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to the Retail Manager, Operations Manager, General Manager, and Dealer Owner, as appropriate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $23.95 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 44 per week
