WOLFE Family Wellness is an Indigenous-led, family-centred 90-day residential healing program grounded in culture, community, and holistic wellness. We support families through ceremony, therapeutic guidance, relational connection, and a trauma-informed, culturally safe environment. Our mission is to help families reconnect, rebuild, and restore balance through cultural identity, traditional teachings, and community support.

Position Summary

The Indigenous Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in strengthening cultural connection, community relationships, and culturally grounded services within WOLFE Family Wellness. This individual will work closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Métis and First Nations communities, and program staff to ensure cultural safety, relevance, and authenticity throughout all aspects of the program.

This position is ideal for someone who is deeply connected to Indigenous culture, understands community protocols, and is passionate about supporting families through holistic, community-rooted pathways to healing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural practitioners, and Indigenous communities
  • Support the integration of traditional teachings, ceremony, and cultural programming into daily and weekly activities
  • Facilitate or coordinate cultural sessions such as drumming, beading, ribbon work, storytelling, and seasonal teachings
  • Guide staff on cultural safety, Indigenous protocols, and trauma-informed practices
  • Ensure families have meaningful, culturally safe experiences throughout their 90-day healing journey
  • Participate in program planning to ensure cultural alignment with WOLFE's vision and values
  • Support families in reconnecting with community, culture, and identity
  • Collaborate with the Family Wellness Manager and Director to ensure program goals are culturally grounded
  • Help assess cultural needs and identify culturally appropriate resources or supports
  • Provide input into program materials, ceremonies, celebrations, and community events
  • Uphold respectful community protocols, including offering tobacco, scheduling Elders, and supporting ceremonial spaces
  • Engage in ongoing learning and reflection to strengthen cultural safety within the organization
  • Perform additional duties as required or assigned to support cultural continuity and family wellness

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, ceremonies, and community protocols
  • Experience working with Indigenous families, communities, or organizations
  • Connections with Elders, knowledge keepers, and cultural teachers, or the ability to build these relationships respectfully
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, relational, and culturally safe practices
  • Lived experience is highly valued and recognized as meaningful expertise
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to facilitate cultural activities and support traditional practices
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check
  • First Aid/CPR (or willingness to complete within 3 months)
  • Indigenous Awareness Training or equivalent knowledge is considered an asset
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
