POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Millwright Apprentice supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial machinery and mechanical systems at Omex Manufacturing ULC. Working under the direct guidance of a licensed Industrial Millwright (433A), the apprentice develops foundational mechanical skills while contributing to equipment reliability and safe plant operations. Responsibilities span mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, equipment adjustments, and assisting with rebuilds and installations within the apprentice's level of training and scope of practice.

DUTIES OF THE JOB:

Under the supervision of a licensed Millwright, the apprentice will:

  • Assist with mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of industrial machinery, equipment, fixtures, and plant infrastructure.
  • Support licensed trades in the installation, alignment, movements, and rebuilding of machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Participate in inspections and basic diagnostics of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, escalating issues requiring licensed intervention.
  • Assist in troubleshooting mechanical faults and documenting observations, symptoms, and corrective actions.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of sensors, limit switches, fuses, and interlocks within the apprentice scope.
  • Maintain accurate electronic maintenance logs, including work performed, issues identified, and parts used.
  • Support machining, welding, and fabrication tasks as training and safety qualifications allows.
  • Assist with equipment commissioning, adjustments, preventative maintenance tasks, and rebuild activities.
  • Safely operate cranes, forklifts, scissor lifts, and rigging equipment once certified and authorized.
  • Participate actively in on-the-job training and skill development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Omex Manufacturing ULC Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be enrolled in, have completed, or be eligible for enrollment in an Industrial Millwright Apprenticeship Program (Ontario Apprenticeship 433A) or a recognized pre-apprenticeship program.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and interest in the industrial maintenance trade.
  • Ability to read basic technical drawings and understand mechanical concepts; developing proficiency expected.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and willingness to learn advance troubleshooting techniques.
  • Available for shift work and overtime as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take direction from licensed trades.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Past experience with preventative maintenance software.
  • Past experience in a high-volume stamping and assembly environment.
